..is my baby staring at me

Yeah, it was still a miracle. Billy looked down at his daughter and smiled. A fucking miracle. So what if he hadn't made her, technically speaking at least, he couldn't have loved her any more if he had. Not that he wouldn't like to have more kids that were his on a genetic level too, but right now she was all he could ask for. Dany wasn't the only ( Read more... )

He hadn't been down to the beach in a while, so Wilson decided to take an afternoon stroll. The breeze always made him happy, in a way. At least it calmed his nerves, and sometimes he ran into somebody he didn't mind seeing. Luckily, today was one of those days. Billy and his daughter were sitting in the shade a few yards away. He couldn't help remembering how nervous his friend had been just before she was born. It looked like all that was all for nothing.

"You're a natural," he remarked in greeting as he sat down. "I mean, at being a dad. She looks perfectly content."

He looked up and smiled when he saw Wilson approaching. "Thanks," he said. "And it's party thanks to you, I think. I didn't freak out as much as I thought I would." Wilson's calm words and his advice had meant a lot to Billy and he had little doubt he'd have been a lot worse off without Wilson's help.

"She's doing great too," he added and gestured for Wilson to sit if he liked. "So how are things with you?" It had been a while since he'd seen the good doctor, after all.

"I'm glad to hear that," he said, looking over at Alys. "She'll be crawling before you know it, then walking, then taking over the world." He wondered if there was a book in the cilnic about a baby's first year that he could give Billy and thought he'd look later.

"Eh, work mostly. That's how it goes. Dr. Frasier disappeared, so things in the clinic have been a little crazy, but it's been quiet lately." Wilson shrugged and laughed a little. "But life goes on. I helped a friend build a house last week, and made chocolate, so I'm keeping busy." He did the best he could to sound enthusiastic about life going on.

"Yeah, it's like, I look away for a second and she's doing something new," Billy said, making a gesture of very happy defeat. After all, he'd only really be worried if she didn't grow that fast.

Billy nodded as Wilson explained. "Sounds like you keep busy," he said. "I'm sure a great part of the population will bless you for the chocolate, though!" He grinned. "Especially at certain times of the month. Sorry about your colleague though." A shadow crossed his face. "I lost someone special recently. It sucks."

"Did I say you could leave the lab?" Tosh smiled down at Billy and Alys, "I suppose for this one you can have a few hours unchained from the desk."

"Oh, you are supposed to be Owen's ball and chain, not mine," he teased, grinning up at Tosh. "But I'm glad you think she's worth a break." He reached over and rubbed Alys's tummy and she wiggled a bit, looking up at the new person in her field of vision. "Alys, this is Tosh," he said. "She's making you a play-mate."

"I'm sure Owen won't mind if I tell you to do instaed of him sometimes." Tosh was grinning as she settled on her knees, her fingers touching Alys' belly lightly. "Hello Alys."

"Likely not," he said, "in fact, I think he'd be very amused. But for what it's worth, I still enjoy the work."

Alys smiled one of her wide, toothless smile, happy to see the new face come closer. "I love her smiled." Billy's voice was softer now. "It's so great to see. And she smiles a lot."

While Billy had care of Alys, Dany decided that she would go out for a ride as it'd been awhile since she'd found the time for it. The Queen and her silver had been out for nearly an hour when she came across Billy on the beach. And then, well then he couldn't help but smile as she coaxed the over eager mare to a halt and simply watched from her perch for a few moments, not wanting to interrupt father and daughter.

They had been on the beach for a while now and Billy had created something vaguely resembling a fat sheep. He'd meant for it be be a horse, but for a first try in ten years or so it wasn't bad at all, so he was fairly pleased. He didn't think he'd do anything with this other than use it as a point to learn from - and perhaps for firewood soon.

Alys had gotten a bit restless and he'd picked her up and was now talking to her in a soft voice, trying to do some of the things Wilson had suggested. Alys didn't seem to care what he said at all, but he was determined to give her the best possible start in life, so he was pretty occupied. It was only when the horse made a sound that he noticed they had company.

"Look sweetie, it's your mother." Alys didn't look, though, but Billy did. Dany still looked like a goddess, especially on a horse and with the sun in her hair like that - straight out of mythology. "And fuck is she beautiful," he added, sure that Dany would hear him.

Dany dismounted as gracefully as she could from her horse and strode over to the two. "Watch your mouth in front of the baby," she said as she pressed a kiss to Billy's forehead. "I don't want her first words to be swearing."

"It wont hurt, I mean, I normally do, so I don't think she'll pick it up," he said took her hand to tug her gently down to them on the ground. "Though perhaps I should be more careful..." His brow wrinkled a bit. "I spoke to Wilson - he's a doctor - and he said that a lot of their development is in the first year. Interesting stuff, actually."
