Regard the moon-- la lune ne garde aucune rancune.

In the way that some people were refreshed by food or drink or a hot bath, Luna was refreshed by sitting in the light of the moon. Her father had once compared her to a night-blooming flower, said the Muggles had a fancy word for how plants ate up the sunlight. How it could apply to her, he said, for la lune.So instead of sunbathing, she bathed ( Read more... )

Funnily enough, Doyle's head is clearer (and pain free) during the nights, and he's taken to getting out of the compound for a while before heading to bed. It's been over a year since he showed up, but Doyle still hadn't really given up the nocturnal life.

When he saw Luna, he diverted his course, careful not to accidentally kick sand her way as he approached her. He stopped a few feet from where she was lying down, and tilted his head to see her better. "Hey, darlin'."

"Hullo, Doyle," she said smiling up at him. "Would you like to lie down a bit? It's a lovely night. I've been looking at the moon and the stars, trying to make friends."

"Yeah, why not," Doyle said with a mental shrug. He lowered himself down next to her, not really caring if he got sand down his shirt and pants. If it meant being able to forget about his own crazy mind for a little while as he talked to Luna, he'd deal. "Have you made some tonight?"

"Yes," she said, and pointed up. "I rather think that group looks like a centaur. I had one for a teacher once, he was a bit serious." She was pointing with her good hand, the other curled to her chest.

Wilson walked, not exactly looking where he was going. Hie eyes were fixed on the stars above until he tripped over something in his path--a leg, actually. Attached to a body, to a friend.

"Oh. Um. Hi Luna," he said with an embarrassed smile as he collected himself. "I have to watch where I'm going in the dark, I guess."

"Most people do," agreed Luna, but without any malice. "Would you like to stop and visit a while?" She seemed to recall life being a bit rough for Dr. Wilson, though at least Milicent Bulstrode wasn't waiting in the toilets for him.

"I was looking at the stars when I should have been looking at the ground," he admitted, rubbing his head and still feeling silly. "Couldn't really see them where I used to live, and... it's nice to be able to see infinity and know it's real."

He'd be glad to catch up with Luna. "Your council speech was very good. I voted for you."

"Mmm, well, most people don't appear to want a teenage witch on council," said Luna, without a trace of rancor. "A pity, I'd have been quite good. You need someone who knows magic, in a place like this."

Anya still hadn't settled into the routine of the island. The compound felt strange to her, and they'd always been so much happening at night, vampires and most of the big bads being nocturnal, that she didn't really have a regular sleeping schedule.

When she saw the girl lying there she thought nothing odd of it at all, making her way over and clearing her throat politely to get her attention. "Excuse me? Is this piece of beach taken?"

"Occupied, but not taken," Luna answered, looking up at the woman. There was something immediately different about her, but it wasn't polite to question people about why they seemed vaguely wrong in the world. "You're free to sit."

Anya did just that, pulling her legs up to her chest, and looking at the girl beside her. "It is pretty here." Everything else that could be said about this place, that it wasn't lovely was not one of them. "No hellmouth, which, is actually more boring then I'd have thought. Maybe you just get used to that sort of thing."

it didn't even occur to her that she didn't know this girl, or that she might not want to talk to her.

"A hellmouth would be rather interesting," Luna agreed. "But once you're here long enough, other odd things will happen. I hope you weren't too used to the magic."

It doesn't surprise Moril to find her there--even if he didn't know her so well, still it fits her, the moonlight glinting silver on her skin, rippling on the water, shining white and swollen in the sky. He drops down to the sand next to her, curling his legs under him, toying with a flyaway strand of her hair in place of hello.

"Hullo there," Luna said quietly, smiling at him. "It's quite a lovely night. Don't you think?" She always had the best times on nights when the moon was large and shining.

"Hello," Moril says, which is the same as agreement, really. It is a lovely night. "It's very pretty."

"I felt like bathing in the moon would be a good idea," she said, though not really out of a need to explain herself. "There was a story I like, about a goddes in the moon, who took a mortal lover."

The night had always been a thing of evil and darkness and fear to Jo, because it hid all of the things that couldn't come out in the daylight. Things were scarier at night. She wasn't afraid of the dark, but she was never really relaxed at night, either.

That's why it was so surprising to her, that the night on the island was so quiet and demon-free and... peaceful. She couldn't sleep, couldn't get used to the constant heat, so she left the compound and went walking. She was down by the beach, just strolling along the shore, her arms hugging herself and watching the water. Only after a while did she notice someone lying in the sand, not too far from her. Fear struck her, as it always did when she saw a body in the dark.

"Hey," she called out softly, trying to curb her emotions, "are you okay?"

One hand raised languidly to the sky, tracing the round outline of the moon. "Oh, yes, very much so. I think there's a snorkak in the moon, what do you think? Not a live one, of course, it just looks that way."

"A what?" Jo asked, walking closer, her heartbeat slowing down now that she knew the girl was okay. She really wasn't in the mood to be dealing with major trauma.

She raised her head to the moon, but she'd never been able to see shapes in it. Maybe when she was really little, before she found out that the moon was what made people change into wolves and other things. She wondered what exactly the other girl saw in it.

"A creature nobody believes in," said Luna, turning her face so that she could see who was speaking. "Besides me, and my father, but he's not here, so it's just me."
