Regard the moon-- la lune ne garde aucune rancune.

In the way that some people were refreshed by food or drink or a hot bath, Luna was refreshed by sitting in the light of the moon. Her father had once compared her to a night-blooming flower, said the Muggles had a fancy word for how plants ate up the sunlight. How it could apply to her, he said, for la lune.So instead of sunbathing, she bathed ( Read more... )

Funnily enough, Doyle's head is clearer (and pain free) during the nights, and he's taken to getting out of the compound for a while before heading to bed. It's been over a year since he showed up, but Doyle still hadn't really given up the nocturnal life.

When he saw Luna, he diverted his course, careful not to accidentally kick sand her way as he approached her. He stopped a few feet from where she was lying down, and tilted his head to see her better. "Hey, darlin'."

"Yeah, why not," Doyle said with a mental shrug. He lowered himself down next to her, not really caring if he got sand down his shirt and pants. If it meant being able to forget about his own crazy mind for a little while as he talked to Luna, he'd deal. "Have you made some tonight?"

"Yes," she said, and pointed up. "I rather think that group looks like a centaur. I had one for a teacher once, he was a bit serious." She was pointing with her good hand, the other curled to her chest.

Doyle turned his head to frown at Luna, though it was more curious than anything disapproving. He caught sight of her hand all curled up, and wondered all over again how it was that the universe was so goddamn wrong about things sometimes. "You had an actual centaur teacher? Like, half horse and everything?"

"Oh yes. They lived out in the Forest, but one of them came to teach astronomy, I believe. It wasn't one of the classes I really payed attention in. The stars don't always reveal their names to scholars, you know." Luna smiled dreamily over at Doyle.
