Okay. So it's a bit weird, when you know guys on unicorns, freaking unicorns, just ride out of nowhere and into existence. Okay, it's way more than weird and it causes me to choke for a moment on the orange I'm eating. Dammit. Can't people just be? Why do they have to show up on unicorns?

I roll my eyes and I'm tempted to not even bother with them, just to keep going on my way to beach with my book and my blanket. Someone else will deal with them.

Then I realise just who they are. "Oh my God, you two are in SO much trouble."

Dennys blinked and snapped his gaze onto Meg, eyes going wide in sincerity. "We didn't know it would change things! We were just messing around!" he said, trying to explain.

"And we didn't mean to do this!" he added, throwing an arm out to encompass the surrounding forest. Because that was what Meg was on about, right? They were in trouble because they fiddled with Father's experiment.

Sandy was too busy staring at his sister to offer up a proper explanation just yet. The tropical forest would just have to wait. "No, we didn't, it wasn't our fault! We didn't see the little note left on the door, honest," he frowned and then let his eyebrows climb high even as his jaw fell low.

"...Are you smaller than you should be? I think you are," he pointed out while defensively hugging the unicorn's neck. "Do you suppose we're meant to pick her up along the way, Den?" Because Sandy had learned to stop asking 'why' in favor of 'what do we do next.'

I rub my eyes with the butt of my hand and I just can't help but gawk and stare, and feel really agitated and really grateful at the same time. God, I missed my brothers.

"You're riding unicorns and what do you mean 'change things'? What have you two done?" I pause and tilt my head, and I know I'm making a face. "Wait, I'm smaller? No, I'm just as I always have been, what about you two? What the hell happened?"

Mother doesn't like cursing, but Mother's not here.

Tosh stopped in her tracks, dropping her bundle of laundry on the ground, not even thinking that she'd just dropped her pile of clean clothes into the dirt.

Unicorns. There were two people on what looked like unicorns who'd just appeared in front of the compound.

Okay. This was stranger then when they'd found Myfanwy even. Or that thing with the fairies. This was... Big white horses. Horns.

Bollocks. It really was Unicorns.

Well, at least she was wearing clothes. But that still didn't mean Dennys had any idea where or when they were, or what they were supposed to be doing. So rather than doing the right thing and hopping down to help the woman with her laundry, Dennys stayed put on his mount.

"Hello," he said with a polite if unsure smile. "Could we ask you some questions?"

And she wasn't small either; definitely not of the dessert variety. "Like, for instance, where we are?" Sandy helpfully supplied.

He sat upright on his unicorn though he kept his fingers in the silky, fresh-smelling mane, also having no immediate desire to dismount. It wasn't safe yet. "And what time we are? What galaxy would be very nice to know as well."

Tosh nodded slowly, her instinct for work taking over. "Harder questions then you'd imagine likely. This is an island, tabula rasa. As to when and where it is, no one's really sure. It just is."

Looking closely at their mounts, she stared at them in wonder. "Those are really unicorns aren't they?"

Mac had been starting to think she was getting to be a little bit hardened against strange occurences. She was so, so wrong. Because unicorns were beyond strange. Unicorns were, well, Veronica was going to be unhappy that she'd missed them, to say the least, because they were awesome.

Mac approached the two guys, and more importantly, the two insanely awesome unicorns. "You guys alright?" she called out as she walked over.

The unicorn Dennys sat on raised a hoof and stamped on the earth twice, but made no other movement, not really, staying put as the girl approached.

Dennys was just happy she was dressed and normal height. Although, even that was a little strange, and he kept glancing between her face and her shirt. "I think so," he said, mostly sure. "I feel okay. Thanks."

And then he glanced over at his brother, asking the same question of him with his eyes.

Sandy met his brother's eyes and nodded once -- their very own language and a sign that yes, he was doing okay and that she seemed harmless. "Yeah," he said not unkindly for the girl, "We're good." She looked like she belonged in their school back home.

The unicorn seemed to register when Sandy mentally made this connection, so as if to reassure him, his unicorn clopped towards her a few steps without his permission, snuffling in a friendly manner. "If you don't mind my asking, do you live around here?" After all his time in the desert it seemed odd that someone would live in that concrete building.

"Yeah, actually," Mac said, moving closer to the unicorn and putting her hand out a little cautiously. "I live in that giant monstrosity back there," she said, inclining her head towards the compound.

Trance had gone to the Compound looking for food. And maybe looking for someone to traipse into the forest with to look for edible plants with. What she didn't expect to see were two young men sitting on unicorns. Her eyes widened and she ran up to them in delight. It'd been a long, long time since she'd seen unicorns.

"What are you doing here?" she murmured when she reached them, petting their muzzles in turn. She looked up at the boys. "I don't think you were planning on coming here, were you?" This was the kind of island that no one exactly planned on going to. Not even her.

Dennys wasn't sure if the woman was talking to them or to the unicorns. Or why she was purple. Some of the nephilim had purple wings, but not purple skins. They were pale and a cold white. Besides, he didn't think unicorns would ever left a nephil touch them.

And the unicorns seemed happy to get pets from her. "Um, no," Dennys answered, unsure. "We were planning on going home. Do you know what happened?"

Sandy's thoughts were running along the same lines. Purple wasn't exactly a color they saw very often on humanoid beings. Even so, he doubted she was even half nephil since the unicorns took so easily to her.

While his unicorn nuzzled her hand and softly whuffled, Sandy looked to Dennys. "Maybe she called them," he said since she was happy enough to see them and not hesitant at all. "Did you call our unicorns?" Sandy carefully asked her. If so, then they had a terribly problem on their hands.

She stopped petting the unicorns once she heard that and shook her head, biting her lip. "I'm afraid not. This island. It's unique. It...pulls people in, I suppose you might say. People seem to end up here from all sorts of places and I don't know anyone that actually planned on coming to this island." She scratched the forehead of the two unicorns in anticipation of the blow she was about to give them. "And I'm not sure there's a way off."

She herself had had no problem showing up on the island. She wasn't supposed to be where she had been and one place was as good as another. But these boys seemed to have been going somewhere.

Tentatively, she added, "On the good side, this place seems to have no place or time of its own. I've met people from all over and met lots of people from my past. So wherever or whenever home is, I don't actually think you'll waste time staying here." Except for the fact that they'd grow older.

Calvin never liked it when people showed up out of the blue. It made him a bit nervous, how people showed up out of the corner of his eye while he was focused on something else.

This one, though, this really took the cake. Even before he got a decent look at them. Because unicorns.

He was walking toward the beach when he got a good look at their faces. Then he started laughing.

"You know, you two look extraordinarily like a couple kids I know," he said by way of greeting. "If maybe they hit a growth spurt and acquired mythical creatures."

Dennys blinked and twisted around in his spot to see Calvin on the path a little ways away. "Cal!" he called, surprised but grateful. "What are you doing here? Where is here?"

He was all questions, but didn't want to get off the unicorn. Not yet.

"Boy, are we glad to see you!" Sandy sighed, relaxing some but not too much. After all, he'd never seen this place in his life.

But at least the sky was blue again and the sun wasn't terribly hot. His clothes still felt odd but the sight of Calvin reminded him that he was in a place where people didn't wear loincloths. "... We're not in trouble, are we?" He figured Cal would know if mother and father were looking for them.

He laughed again, completely unable to keep from grinning gleefully. Because, oh, twins. Damn, but it was good to see them, albeit tan and too tall.

"You are absolutely in trouble," Calvin said with a smile, walking close enough to put a hand out to Denny's unicorn. It nudged his hand, and he couldn't help but give a close look to where the horn was coming out of its forehead. That was something that needed further observation. "Pandimensional desert island that plucks people out of time and space and sticks them here indefinitely. It's kind of a thing."

Then he grinned again at the twins. "So, unicorns? Do I get context? This is almost better without context."
