Christmas morning wasn't usually like this. In fact, Christmas morning Nick was usually fast asleep after a long (very long, incomprehensibly long) night's work. But the island was a very different place, and called for a very different approach. So Nick woke up with the dawn, dressed in a pair of dark trousers and a warm red sweater he'd found in ( Read more... )

Sansa wanders up to the compund that morning though she doesn't need to get fruit for once, she's quite full of lemoncakes. She has a brand new hair ribbon in her hair and is still quite grateful to Susan. A whole holiday just for presents, and for Susan to give her something for the baby is quite special indeed. When she heads into the rec room to enjoy the fire and the splendidly decorated tree, she's pleased to see someone she knows, if only a little, "Happy Christmas, Nick," she says and she offers out the parcel of lemoncakes. She knows she's to keep the ribbon to herself but is fairly sure she'll be allowed to share the cakes. If only so she won't be fat from weight gain long before the child starts to show.

"Merry Christmas, Sansa!" he said happily, quite eager to share the offered cakes with her. "It looks like you've done some celebrating of the holiday already. Would you like to keep me company for a little while?"

Sansa nods, equally cheerful, taking a seat near him. "I went carolling yesterday and my friend Susan made me cakes and hair ribbons and a blanket for the baby." She pauses, "we don't have Christmas in Westeros so I had no idea I was to get presents, it was a very lovely surprise."

"Giving gifts is one of the greatest joys of Christmas," said Nick. "I do hope you're prepared for one more, Sansa, as I couldn't possibly let you go today without giving you something."
