S.N.A.P.E. Contest

Posters! They convey simple, would-be persuasive messages in stunning graphic form. From Toulouse-Lautrec's treatments of the Moulin Rouge to Russian Constructivism to Chinese revolutionary propaganda to 60's rock show ads, posters are as much a part of culture as any "fine" art.

This is certainly a new idea: I can't wait to see what people come up with!

(By the by, I just posted a plug for the contest over on my journal, and I'm sure others will, too. Expect entries to come in slowly at first, as a lot of us are teachers or students and it's finals time--bleh!)

I hear that! But remember, if the link doesn't work, you can take a screen shot (press "alt" & "prt scr/sysrq") and then paste into your paint program.

Agreed! I can think of many places in which this poster should be posted :-)

Don't think this is funny, necessarily, but when checking out the suggested resources above, I couldn't resist making this:

Potions Propaganda

After the incident in Book 6, Ministry Officials quietly retired this poster.

[Based on this Chinese propaganda poster (4th one down; translated text copied directly with one minor change)]

So true. I love this; it's just beautiful, and funny.

That's lovely, grainne! And I think the irony of seeing Snape like this (when Rowling's version via Harry is supposed to be so uninspiring and greasy) does indeed make it pretty darn funny--the perfect piece of propaganda!
