An Airship Over Spira, Monday Night (Fandom Time) [NFB-distance]

May 25, 2009 21:21

Things that Rikku hated: the temple at Kilika, New Yevonites, old Yevonites, Spira, people who insisted on trying to fight each other instead of maybe trying to get along for once in their stupid lives, and worst, having to hold all of that in while playing stupid freaking diplomat for a bunch of jerks ( Read more... )

spira - now with tech, little sister momoko, sokka, my friends rock, life should not be this confusing, new yevon sucks as hard as old yevon did, not so merry, still a guardian dammit, serious conversations (yes i have them), places: spira: airship, reno, fun with: phones, romeo, dōjima, yunie

Momoko's phone rang and she blinked at the caller id only a moment before answering. "Oh my gosh, Rikku! Rikku! Rikku! How are you? Your phone is working! Hi! Are you okay?"

Her voice probably gave away her combined concern for Rikku's safety, being in a world full of monsters and stuff, and excitement at hearing from her.

"It sure is," Rikku laughed. "Hey. Totally got reception up here. But if I hang up suddenly, then the signal cut out. Can't promise that won't happen."

Momoko clasped her phone and did a small dance. "I'll totally understand! How is everything? Are you okay? Not hurt, right? How's Petey?"

"Totally not hurt," Rikku said confidently. "All the beasties here are lightweights. Hardly worth suiting up for. They drop some neat shinies, though. The rest of it -- eh. You know how it is."

A tactful way of noting that Spira was complicated, and the conversation was less cheery than her usual. "How's Fandom?"

Well, Rikku didn't sound as cheerful as she could be, but at least she wasn't hurt... Momoko had a feeling she was forgetting something about her friend and her world, but she couldn't put a finger on it. She shrugged; she would remember eventually.

"Fandom's been pretty quiet! At least for me. There were cute little moose running around the other day, and glitter rain. But not much else. Maybe it's tired?"

"Awww, mooooooses," she sighed. "Send me pictures? And maybe it's just letting the new people settle in without confusing the crap out of them. Being all stealth with its crazy. It's sneaky like that."

"You know I got lots and lots of pictures! I'll send them! They were sooo tiny! And I had the island move on me when I first got here! This is totally unfair!" She laughed. "Oh! And I got a new roommate! Her name's Shilo and she's a newbie!"

"Is she nice?" Rikku laughed. "Who's got my old room? Are they cool? And the island taking off was so cool. I'm kinda sad that didn't turn into a tradition, right there."

Momoko nodded, then remembered that it wasn't a video call. "I thought it always happened, so I was kind of expecting it again! Does anything repeat here? I don't really want to be blind again, but being a kid was fun!" Today seemed to be a day for her to remember stuff. Well, that was okay with Momoko; they were all good times in the end!

"We just got back to the dorms today, so I haven't checked to see who's across the hall yet, sorry. And Shilo's nice. She likes bugs, though, which is gross, but everyone is different, I guess. Oh! Oh! And she wants a kitty!"

"I was a kid ... three times?" Rikku laughed. "And I had future kids show up a few times, too, and I kept talking to myself one weekend, when Reno was his own evil twin, but I don't know about the rest of it. I've never been blind, that just sounds scary. And you two have to get a kitty. Cats are amazing. I miss Petey so much. Did I tell you? He's back on Besaid, chilling out. I wanna go see him again soon."

That got a gasp. "You don't have Petey? What happened?"

"It's okay," she said quickly. "I've just been traveling a lot. I left him with Wakka for a few weeks. Wakka is this big burly guy with BRIGHT orange hair who likes to give squishy bear hugs. Petey adores him. So while I zip around setting up cell towers and playing diplomat, he's watching my Cuban Pete. And taking good care of him, because I'll pummel him if he doesn't."

"Oh good!" Momoko released a huge breath. "Not the pummelling part, although I'll totally help if he does something to him. Although if he gives good hugs he's gotta be a good guy! So you're being a diplomat, now? That is so cool! It's probably not fun, but do you like it?"

She was so including that in her next communication to her parents: my friend graduated from here a few months ago and she's now a diplomat.

It sounded impressive, didn't it? Like she was hanging out with the UN.

"I hate it," she admitted with a sigh. "Nobody's getting along. It's a joke. But it's better to just ... suck it up and play diplomat and try than to ... you know. Give up and let them end up fighting each other. Nobody wants that. Not even them. Not even if they're freaking stupid enough to think they do."

Momoko slapped her forehead with her palm. Oh, yeah! Rikku's world had all those stupid people that hated each other just because of who they are!

"Ah! I'm sorry! That people won't stop fighting with each other does totally suck, it's true. Especially if they're just plugging their ears and going la-la-la like two year olds when you try to talk to them. But at least you're doing it! And it's definitely better to be working for peace than for war!"

"Mostly, one side is calling the others a bunch of war-mongering liars and power-happy jerks, and the other side is calling my people heathens and subhumans," Rikku said with a huff. "I'm so tempted to tell them I just don't care any more. Shoot each other. Have a grand old time. Neither of you are worth saving."

Rikku was ... having a bad day, yes.
