Friday Afternoon, The Causeway

Oct 19, 2007 22:37

Rikku was bouncing a little on her toes, waiting at the edge of the Causeway. They'd be here soon, right? She wasn't that fond of the Causeway right now and didn't want to just ... stand here but that didn't matter. What mattered was that Yunie and Tidus were coming, any minute now, and Tidus hadn't been here since everything that happened in May, and Yuna had never been to Fandom at all, and she needed to hug them both and show them everything and take it all in and see what they thought of it and ... she hated waiting.

Lulu would be here soon, and they could wait together. Right. She could be patient. Really. She'd try.

Lulu
Lulu smiled softly as they waited for Tidus and Yuna to arrive. "It will be nice to see them again," she said idly, very deliberately not watching the causeway with excitement.

Rikku
"It will," Rikku said, fidgeting again. "Y-yunie's never seen half the stuff I ramble about, and ... Tidus hasn't been here since ... since, you know."

Lulu
"I'm quite certain," Lulu said, "that he will be quite happy to see your friends again -- the ones he met while he was here," she clarified. "And Yuna will love Fandom just as much as you do, I'm sure."

Rikku
"I don't think I slept the whole time he was here," she mused. "It was all hyper and we sparred with Deadpool and we had donuts and partied on the roof and he stayed in J-Jude's room."

Lulu
Lulu smiled softly. "I imagine you had fun sparring," she said, trying to deftly turn the conversation away from Jude for the moment. That was a subject for another time, she thought. "I don't believe I've had donuts yet, however; are they some kind of food?"

Rikku
"We almost beat him," she smiled. "Donuts are ... kinda like fried bread, in little circles, but more like cake than bread? And kinda sugar-coated and they make you hyper. We'll have to stop by Jeff's and grab some. Oh, man, maybe we should have had some here? Like, 'hi, thanks for showing up, donuts'? I dunno, I suck at this kinda thing."

Lulu
"You're doing fine, Rikku," Lulu said. "Also, I brought cupcakes."

Rikku
Rikku grinned. "You prepare way better than I do. And you don't mind them staying and all? 'Cause there's not much room, like, on my floor. I mean. You know."

Lulu
Lulu gave Rikku a look. Not a Look, just a look, one that said, "Don't be absurd." Although with her, even her regular looks are practically a normal person's Look.

"I assure you, it is no hardship to have them staying in my apartment."

Rikku
"Yeah. Okay. Right." She nodded. "Just nervous. What if the Causeway's all weird and they don't get here, or what if they get here and they think it sucks, although Tidus said he liked it, but what if everything goes wrong, and ... I dunno."

Lulu
"Rikku." Lulu turned to face her full on, looking away from the Causeway. "Everything will be fine. They will come, they will love it, and we will all have a fantastic weekend together."

Rikku
Rikku nodded again. "Yeah. Okay. Just ... bad week." She made a face, not wanting to talk about it. "But they'll be here soon, yeah?"

Yuna
Yuna looked a bit nervous. "It's been so long..." She wasn't sure she was ready for this.

Tidus
Tidus glanced at her, raising bleached eyebrows, curious. "Since what?"

Yuna
"Since I've seen Rikku," she explained, voice soft. "I don't know what to say to her or anything."

Tidus
"Hey, it's Rikku," Tidus said, giving Yuna a small, encouraging smile. "You probably won't have to say anything - she'll talk enough for the both of you."

Yuna
Yuna giggled, "That's true. Her letters are certainly... excited."

Tidus
He grinned slowly. "Well, her school may be awesome, but it's not quite Spira either. I know she misses you a lot, so don't worry, all right?"

Yuna
She grinned and leaned into Tidus slightly, "I'll try."

Yuna
Yuna blinked as she just suddenly found herself at the end of the causeway. She wasn't sure what she had expected, but something a bit more... exciting than this. No flash of light, no weird disorientation, just... there.

She was frowning to herself in mild disappointment which is why she didn't immediately notice Rikku and Lulu waiting for her.

Rikku
One minute, she was talking to Lulu on the Causeway, fidgeting and nervous ...

... and the next, there she was.

"Yunie!" Rikku cried, sprinting forward for a hug. "You're really here!"

Tidus
Tidus grinned, letting Yuna have first crack at greeting Rikku as he stood a pace back, hands behind his head. "Both of us, even."

Lulu
Lulu smiled at Rikku's... enthusiastic greeting as she stepped forward herself. "Yuna, Tidus, it's good to see you both again," she said smoothly. "I hope your trip wasn't unpleasant?"

Yuna
Yuna moved automatically to wrap her arms around her cousin. "Hey, Rikku," she laughed, worries seeming to evaporate. "Did you miss me?"

Tidus
Wasn't much of a trip!" Tidus said, grin widening as he turned to Lulu, letting his arms fall to his sides. "A minute ago, we were there, now we're here. Pretty convenient, I say."

Rikku
Rikku squeezed the other girl, laughing along with her. "You bet I did. It's so good to see you."

She let go and turned to tackleglomp Tidus. Which he really should expect, knowing her and all. "A lot better than the ride on the airship, huh? Man, that took forever."

Lulu
"The trip is quite... efficient, yes," Lulu said, stepping forward to envelop Yuna in her arms. "And you, Yuna? How have you found yourself since I left?" She smiled softly. "I do hope the boys haven't been boring you with too much talk of blitzball."

Yuna
Yuna's arms tightened around Lulu, "I've missed you," she said softly. Then she grinned, laughing a little, "Oh, they haven't been too bad." She shot Tidus a teasing look.

Tidus
Tidus looked slightly sheepish as he stepped out of the tight hug he'd been giving Rikku. "I'd blame it on Wakka, but it's no fair when he can't defend himself. What else do you talk about on Besaid, though?"

Rikku
"How much the Aurochs are gonna get whomped?" Rikku laughed. "This is totally our year, you know. The Psyches are gonna rule."

Lulu
That? Was a baleful glare leveled in Rikku's direction. "Must we speak of Blitzball?" Lulu asked, as she pulled away from Yuna. "There may well be very little else to speak of on Besaid -- although I always managed well enough -- but we are not presently on Besaid. Perhaps we could discuss something to do with the island or the school."

Tidus
"No way, the Aurochs are doing great this se--" Tidus broke off at Lulu's look and ducked his head, grinning again. "Okay, okay, something else is good too. So, where are we staying?"

Rikku
"With Lulu," Rikku said, bouncing a little. And shutting up about Blitz, honest. "If that's cool with you guys and all. Dunno why it wouldn't be. But, uh, my floor would be a little crowded, yeah? She's got a neat apartment with this guy - uh - not like that. You'll see. It's nice."

Yuna
Yuna smiled widely. She hadn't realized just how much she'd missed Rikku's... personality. "I'm sure it'll be fine," she reached out to drape her arm across Rikku's shoulder. "So, where to first, oh experienced guide?"

Lulu
Lulu smiled softly. "Perhaps some food would be in order," she said. "Which I can certainly provide at my apartment. Unless, Rikku, you have another suggestion?"

Rikku
"We should totally show them the park," Rikku said, grinning at her cousin. "That's on the way anyway, isn't it? Just detour through. It's so pretty. And you have to meet Deadpool, 'cause he's Deadpool, and Dawn and Luke, and oh man. There's gonna be all kinds of awesome stuff."

Rikku
Everything was wonderful, seeing Yunie, seeing Tidus, laughing and chatting like old times, in Lulu's apartment ... and then there was a growing knot in the pit of her stomach, and suddenly it wasn't. Everyone was happy and she'd missed them so much and they were here finally so why did she feel sort of like she couldn't breathe? Probably just being stupid again. No reason to wreck everyone else's night.

Rikku stood up abruptly, instead. "Hey, uh. I kinda ... need to ... go?" She swallowed and gestured, vaguely. "Mel - she's this friend of mine - the one I took the road trip with, down to Florida and we almost got arrested? I mean, in Florida, 'cause we did get arrested before that. It's okay, it's not a thing here, they just put ink on your hands and take your picture and then you break out again."

Wow, Rikku rambled even worse than usual when she was upset. "But, uh. There's some kinda vampire thing going on and she's got patrol and I said I'd help her kill some lurks. I, uh, I should go do that, yeah?"

Tidus
Tidus blinked, corners of his mouth downturned slightly as Rikku spoke. "Sure, I guess... We'll see you later though, right?"

Rikku
"Oh, totally," she said, nodding quickly. "I'll be back as soon as we finish patrol. Should just be an hour or two. We did patrol a couple times before, but there usually weren't vampires or anything? There are now so, you know. Stuff to attack, people to protect, you know the deal, right?"

Rikku flashed him a weak smile and okay, it probably sounded weird, but maybe he understood anyway. Yeah?

Lulu
Lulu frowned at Rikku. "You haven't mentioned anything about a threat on the island," she said. "Do you and Mel require any assistance?"

Rikku
"Nope," she said, holding her chin up. "Just lurks. You stake them and they disintegrate. Mel eats this kinda crap for breakfast. She's a Slayer. It's a thing. I'm just going for back-up."
