Just because it's summer doesn't mean you can slack off.

So far this year, summertime has been one heck of a busy season. Despite the heat (outside and inside, everyone is hard at work. At least, by all appearances. Like any company, this one has secrets. From the secretary being called into the boss' office and coming out a hot mess, to the copy ( Read more... )

Glancing up over the rim of her glasses, Amelia took in the sight of the girl in front of her. And she thought she was nervous about this, Karen seemed a lot more unsure. Since her father's firm was a family business, she had been able to watch and be involved in the work process for a long time before she got her intership, so she was more at ease and familiar with things.

Still, she could understand being worked up over a big assignment, so offered a happy grin as she stood up, trying to ignore the leather coming off against her legs.

"Oh, nice to meet you Miss Minazuki. I'm Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun." she smiled, offering her hand in a friendly gesture of greeting. "My daddy would have come, but something came up this morning, so he asked me to run this stuff by you for the next campaign." she explained, waiting patiently until she was director in the office.

Karen quickly took the offered hand. "A pleasure to meet you, too, Miss Seyruun." In more ways than Karen had expected. She seemed so far like a nice girl, and pretty, too.

"Ah, but it's convenient that we're both substitutes, right? If we do something wrong, nobody will know about it." Perhaps bringing it up as a joke would deflect attention from her actually being worried about doing it wrong. "Anyway, let's go on back to the office and get started."

Amelia would have pointed out she couldn't afford to mess up since her father was in charge, but quickly decided against it. If it relaxed Karen, then she would let her be. Besides, the other girl was a lot nicer looking when she was smiling, at least she thought so. Instead she shook the young woman's hand, nodding and following her to the office.

"Well, since we're both just filling in, why not drop the formalities and make it more comfortable?" she suggested and she walked beside the other intern. "You can just call me Amelia if you like."

Karen would have assumed that that improved her situation, but it wasn't as if anybody was asking her anyway. "In that case, call me Karen." That did feel more comfortable, actually... even if it would take her a moment to actually call her Amelia.

"Here we are." The project director was a popular and successful figure at the company, and one of the many benefits was that he had an especially spacious office. It was furnished with a large desk, a few nice cushioned chairs, a bookshelf that displayed an assortment of awards on an upper shelf... there was even a small refrigerator, of all things, underneath a table. Karen pulled up one of the chairs for Amelia, then sat in another next to her. She would have used the one behind the desk, but that would have felt strange. Besides, she liked the idea of being closer to the other intern.

For Amelia, is just meant more pressure so she didn't disappoint her father. It was made worse by her sister being so relaxed and barely making an effort some days, meaning the younger of the two felt she had to set a better example. Still, she couldn't help but show her carefree bubbliness with Karen despite the fact they needed to discuss business.

As she went inside, she sat down in the seat offered and admired the office a moment, before leafing through the folder and adjusting her glasses before handing over a few sheets of paper to the other intern.

"Okay, those are the original proposals we got for what you wanted with these advertisements, the agreed changes are in the margins. Could you confirm that you were okay with the amendments?" she asked, flicking through the rest of the papers. She hadn't had much time to look things over, having spent a good chunk of time trying to find the folder in her sister's mess of a desk at the firm, so she wanted to be sure she was on the right track.

Karen had similar feelings of not wanting to disappoint her father, but given that he was in Paris now (and had been in New York a few weeks ago, some places she'd never heard of before called Charlotte and Denver before that, and so on back to last Christmas) and had nothing to do with the company, that was a rather different situation for her. And while she certainly knew about setting a good example, around here she was just the kid everyone was setting their good examples for.

After being briefly distracted watching Amelia adjust her glasses, she blinked, cleared her throat, and looked over the papers with an "ah--yes." She wasn't certain about advertising, but she at least knew about the product, so it wasn't completely foreign territory.

Amelia's sister's handwriting, on the other hand, was. "Er, what's this about?" she asked as she pointed to a note.

For all the pressure at times, working together meant the Seyruun's were close, and Amelia was always glad for being around her family so much. Even if a lot was expected of her, she knew her father was supportive, and just wanted to see her become the best she could be. This meant she was very friendly with anyone, and never saw her position elevating her above other employee's, meaning she got on well with just about everyone ( ... )
