After all these years, after everything he has seen and done, Peter could finally see the end coming. His regeneration ability has finally given up on him and now he only has a few short weeks left. Thankfully, he is able to spend it at home with his loved ones.

Nathan hasn't seen his brother in years, since he realized the dose of Adam's blood he was given had slowed his aging. He had used Sylar to fake his own death and slipped away so that Peter could find his own way. It was a cruel thing to do, but now he was coming home to say goodbye to the other half of his soul.

"Hey Pete.....you look like crap."

Peter had seen many people through their deaths. He had been a hospice nurse, paramedic, doctor. With as long as he has lived he's seen friends, family, lovers, children go before himself. Some of those people seemed to see those that have passed before them come to take them home. That must be what he was seeing now as he blinked his eyes at the figure in the doorway.

"Nathan?"

Nathan entered the room and sat beside his brother's bed resting his hand against the covers.

He isn't as young as he was the last time Peter saw him in that hotel room, his hair is streaked with gray and his face has a few more winkles. "It's me Peter," he says softly.

A small smile crossed his lips as he beamed up at his older brother. "Nathan!" He took the other's hand in his feeling the warmth in it. Right then he knew that his beloved brother was really there.

"You're alive?"

Nathan swallows hard at the sight of the smile he loved so much. "Turns out Adam's blood lasted a little longer than he thought," he says softly, "Pete...I....god I have so much I want to say...so much I need to say."

Under normal cercumstances Peter would have been mad or at last hurt to find out that his brother was still alive and not let Peter know about it, but right now he's just happy to have him here when it counts.

He struggled to sit up and moved over on his large bed. "Nate, sit with me." He patted the space next to him. "There is still time to tell me."

Nathan slid onto the bed like he had always belonged there and took Peter's hand in his. "I'm sorry I left you Peter...but I knew if I stayed you'd never look at me the same way you used to.

You needed to live without me...and so when I saw my chance I took it....I just didn't know Ma was going to lie to you and Claire like she did."

Peter laid his head on Nathan's shoulder and it felt like he was a young kid again. "Nathan, you thought you were doing the right thing. I understand it now. It tore me up when I thought you died...twice." The memory of not being able to hold onto him and watching Nathan fall to his death flashed before him and Peter wrapped his arms around his alive again brother.

"All that was so long ago. I never stopped loving you and I never would have if you'd stayed."

Nathan feels as if he has come home when Peter holds him the way he used to. "I never stopped loving you either," he says, "I tried to find someone else....but every time I ended up seeing you."

"So I focused on my business, a pilot school and local air taxi service...because flying and you are the two things that ever made me truly happy."

Peter sighed, knowing exactly what he meant about truly being happy. "I've married a few times, had a some kids, but something always seemed to be missing. I'm glad you kept flying, it's the one place you always seemed to let go and relax."

Peter raised a hand and pointed at the desk across the room that is covered in picture frames. "Our family is over there. Simon, Monty and Claire's kids and mine along with their kids. I kept track of everyone."

He looked up and searched Nathan's face. "I was looking to fill a void. I could never fill it without you."

Looking at the pictures, Nathan's heart aches for all he has lost and for a moment he has to close his eyes against the grief and loneliness.

"Pete...I'm sorry...I wasted so much time."

He hugged Nathan tight, burying his face in his brother's chest. "It's...It's okay."

Peter can feel the other's guilt and grief. Why now? Life is so cruel, He finally has his brother back now that he only has a few short weeks left.
