I Have a Gumby Cat In Mind ...

Apr 11, 2014 17:44

This past Sunday we noticed a small ripped hole in a bag of cereal and a few pieces scattered about. While throwing the bag away, one of us noticed a small brown blur run across the floor not far from where the bag had been. We knew what that meant, we have a mouse.

We then spent the rest of the day organizing our boxed goods (pasta, side dishes, mixes, etc) into tubs logging their contents. I had intended to do this organizing that day anyway but the furry interloper made the job a bit more urgent. On the upside, we have a much better grasp on our food stores and know what we really need to buy in order to keep us stocked up on staples.

Now we just need the cat to get to work and provide us with the offending rodent's carcass as he has so often in the past. However, he seems to be feeling his full age of 17 these days and would rather nap in my lap all day that perform his catly duties. I'm trying to convince him otherwise (especially since the weather's warming up and the blanket he likes me to have on my lap is just too hot to use anymore) but he's still insisting on snoozing rather than killing.

So it would appear that we need "A Better Mousetrap".

Why has no one actually done this seemingly simple task? Especially in the current climate of online innovation & crowd funding. Thanks to the internet everyone has the potential to become this generation's Ron Popeil. For those of you too young to have horrible memories of his terrible commercials, he was the "genius" behind many gadgets including "The Pocket Fisherman" and was one of the first marketers to use the "As Seen on TV" label.

We all have ideas to improve basic tasks. Many of us have created items to aid us in them or at least drawn up plans for these items. However, these days it is so much easier to see these ideas grow to fruition in order to improve our standard of living and maybe make yourself a tidy sum of money. Yet, so few revelatory innovations are created even now.

Apathy, insecurity and lack of support are the most likely stumbling blocks, finding the right path to development is sometimes overly daunting.

For instance, I have an idea for a minor improvement to birth control pills that is so revolutionary due to it's sheer simplicity. Why don't they put anti-cramping medication in the off week of pills? It would be such a small alteration. They could still offer ones without any medication and then have a couple of options based on strength and type of medication used. I've talked with numerous women and so far have yet to hear from one who would not like this as an option (especially since most of us don't take those off-week pills anyway). Yet, the hoops one would have to go through to get this small change made and the tyrannical opposition to even allowing women the access to them are so overwhelming that my idea will likely die away with me. Still, it is a good concept and I do hope that someone who reads this will be able to at least try to get the ball running on my idea.

I know that all of you out there have something that you've come up with that could be some sort of game changer for humanity so I want to encourage each of you to share your ideas with others. Who knows, you may come across the exact person you need to see the project to the next phase. Even if you fall flat on your face you will have at least tried and that's more effort than most people do. Plus, if you do stumble upon just the right item, you could not only make the world a little better but make your own life more pleasant and how can that be bad?

So, this raging cheer-fest has been my entry for this week's therealljidol topic Build A Better Mousetrap. Thanks for reading my efforts and I hope that you enjoyed them.

TTFN!
