Friendship, Friendship ...

Happy Bastille Day everyone! Join me and my friends tonight as we eat a burger in celebration.

Why eat a burger you are asking? Here's the explanation:

I didn't have friends growing up. Mostly because no other kids lived anywhere nearby and the few that lived a reasonable distance refused to spend any time with me lest they be deemed less cool for doing so. Also, in the area I lived in money was everything and I didn't have enough to be tolerated. So it wasn't until I was in High School that I actually had friends.

In my senior year I developed a small group of friends (about 6 of us all together) and we were the outcasts and freaks that didn't fit in to any other cliques anywhere. We all knew that once we graduated we planned to get the hell out of town as soon as possible and never look back. Since this was in the days before the internet (yes, I really am that old), we knew that we would likely never see or hear from each other again. Therefore, we wanted some sort of touchstone that we could have to keep the memory of our friendship alive.

Brian (who was our "leader" of sorts) decided that we needed a celebration that we could share. He had planned for it to be Bastille Day (due to it being a little offbeat like us) but forgot about it until the next day. He then called each one of us to try to see if we had all done something similar to use as a basis for celebration. He then discovered that each and every one of us had eaten a hamburger.

Therefore it was decided that each and every year afterwards we would all get together with our circle of friends and eat a hamburger and reflect on our friends past and present. So, tonight I will be getting together with several of my friends to celebrate this fine tradition once again.

I also ask those of you out there to join me in this tradition of celebrating friendship. Get together with whatever group of friends you can, eat a hamburger and remember your friends.

So, Happy Bastille Day everyone! Eat a burger, celebrate friendship and have a good time.

Love to you all and I will talk to you again tomorrow.

TTFN!

friends, bastille day
