River was still a bit shellshocked from last week's stuffed animal attacks, but she was doing her best to get back to normal. This was much easier said than done, when neither River nor Zoe was sleeping well, they couldn't have bananas on board Serenity without upsetting the baby, and, perhaps even worse, the wing kept coming off the one plush toy that didn't terrify Zoe, her beloved parrot Niao. While the rest of the residents of the ship had managed to come out mostly unscathed, poor Niao had been severely wounded and, though she had attempted to repair him, River's sewing skills were not quite up to the challenge of wing reattachment surgery.
So, having left Zoe under the safe eye of her father, just in case watching whatever might be needed to repair Niao might cause further trauma, River was in the marketplace, looking for someone who might be able to properly restore a stuffed parrot to his former, somewhat chewed on and battered two-winged glory. She was not entirely certain who might have such expertise, but she figured the island population was sufficiently diverse that there must be someone with a specialty in children's toys.
