Beyond the Rift: 'Cause I followed my star and that's what you are...

The Doctor debated for a while whether finding Martha was actually a good idea, or if it would only make things worse. He did not debate for as long as he could have, because he hasn't seen Martha in days, and he missed her and worried about her and he's not in a mood to let anything get worse ( Read more... )

Martha had been curled up on her bed, wondering the same thing, which is part of the reason she let him figure out if he was in the mood to be around... anyone at all. Let alone her. The situation would be hard enough as it is, without him wishing her were alone the whole time, especially since she has this feeling that he can just look at her and know. Irrational, maybe, but the feeling is there, making her hesitant to even write that entry to him. As if such things could be translated through text.

She's struggling with the nausea brought on by the painful, sickening knowledge of what she's been doing these past few days. The shame threatens to overwhelm her, but for now, she's just staring at the wall across from her bed and trying not to puke again.

The knock followed by his voice makes her hesitate. But not for long. She needs to see him. No matter the result.

Martha opens the door and takes a step back, a multitude of emotions playing within her eyes, but despite the initial wave of nerves, she manages to smile.

"Hey."

The Doctor hadn't actually expected her to open the door, just sort of... yell at him to come in or go away depending on her mood. Consequently, he sort of half-falls forward at first, catching himself on the door frame and flashing her a quick smile as soon as he's sure he's not going to fall flat on his face - or, rather, into her, which would be nearly as embarrassing.

"Hello," he says with a smile of his own, eyes flickering over her face. Something's wrong. He doesn't know what, but he can see it - it's fairly hard to miss. The Doctor waits only about a second and a half before stepping forward and wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug.

Questions can wait for a minute or two. Hugs now.

Consequently, she hadn't expected him to be leaning against the door like that, but she guesses it's one of those things she should have checked on before opening it. Either way, his near falling as result makes it easier to smile.

She's surprised by the hug. Not too surprised, but enough that it takes her a moment to react. Then she is able to react and she wraps her arms around him just as tightly. It's so easy to measure the differences. This embrace in comparison to the other ones. Well. It's only been a few days, but she's missed him. .. and she's missed embraces that don't end in bruising.

"Wasn't sure you'd come," she says, softly. Just a hint of concern there. After all, according to Jack he'd been missing and there are some things that can be read even through text. His comments had not been exactly reassuring.

He buries his face against her shoulder, presses a kiss against it, and just holds her for a moment before pulling back just far enough to look at her face.

"You asked," he says lightly, still with that gentle (and slightly worried) smile. "Of course I came."
