Snakes are evil....at least when they escape

I've got such a head ache right now. I don't feel good and it's all thanks to Sherman my garter snake. I must have not put his lid on right. I've owned snakes for almost four years now and today was the first escape. I went to look at him and noticed he wasn't in the plants or in his log. Then I saw the lid and my stomach sank. My house is a ( Read more... )

glad you found him so quickly! Escapes come with the territory - especially when we have a momentary lapse in reason & forget to close their cages correctly (been there, done that). Remember my story about my 4 missing corns? At least you found your guy right away.

Luckily, most escapees do seem to stick close by to where they escaped.

OMG yes. I was so freaked. I was going all over the house with a stick poking in cracks. I'm SOOOO glad he didn't leave the room which he easily could have. Last thing I need is a snake in the bird room. I was in another room when Chris yelled that he found him. I think the escape had just happened too. Yes I remember your story. I'm glad you found yours too. We were talking about leaving fish in a bowl and setting up a trap of some sort. Glad we didn't have to go that far.

Hehe, that happened to me too, with a snake I used to have.. but we never found him again! To this day, we have no idea how he escaped, too!

Oh wow. I'm sorry you never found him. :( Did you have good locks on your lid? They can push out and using books isn't always effective. What type of snake was it?

We did have a lid, but it was secured down, and the lid was still in place when we found the cage empty. It was a red rat snake; we used to keep the ones we found in the yard as pets. Anyways, maybe it found some other way out, it was quite a mystery, and we never found it's body (this was over 10 years ago, the snake's probably long dead).

Snakes are VERY strong and it would surprise me if he pushed the lid off and slid out. Lid falls back in place. And if he got out he'd have survied since he's a native.

OH. Yeah a little disapointed. I was waiting up for you. That's ok. You have to be in the mood to play. If you're not then writing will come out bad and it's no fun for anyone so I understand. Working on drawings is good too. I hope you work on mine. I am so looking forward to that. I've got another buddy working on more kill ill art so I'm happy as a lark.
