Sorry for the unplanned hiatus from LJ. About a month ago I broke a promise to myself. I was feeling down and posted about it, and it turned ugly. So I locked it for myself only. Some stuff came up that I realised I needed to talk to mfrazercani about before I put it up for the whole internet to read. I calmed down the next day and we did resolve it, but ( Read more... )

It's good to see you. I was starting to get worried. For #5, I suggest presenting male and look as sharp as you can. Non-awful women's work wear is hard to find and even if you are presenting female, menswear available everywhere is still way nicer (I wore menswear for interviews when I still presented female). I like to think employers will take a person at their word when they come in all Mr. So and so is here about the job ( ... )

Thank you. I think you're right that presenting more towards the masculine end of the spectrum is probably best for job hunting. I may get lucky and find a place that is safe/comfortable for me to transition the rest of the way. And I'll mull over your suggestion on dealing with the "in-between" space I'm in to see if it will work for me. It is getting a bit easier as time goes on, thankfully.

And thanks for commenting. I'm always happy to hear from you, but I know you're not comfortable commenting on unlocked posts. Feel free to send me a message, instead, or call me. I have my own reasons for keeping my journal public (and thank the gods I've not run into any problems yet - cross fingers and knock on wood) but I don't want to make you feel like you're being kept from talking freely.

I'll keep that in mind about calling or emailing you. Actually I was talking about a comment I made in a community a while before having started writing that post, so it was just bad timing that I also commented on your post. I am trying to be aware of where my input is necessary vs. just because it's there. In the case of a question about Rogain in a public comm, I do not need to weigh in. :P

Absolutely go with a masculine presentation for any job interviews. routemaps is right: it's hard to find female business clothing that isn't awful, even the stuff that's supposedly "menswear" style. I had to go on a couple of job interviews while I was in the awkward stage - people thought I was male about half the time - and found a dress shirt and tie tipped the balance in favour of being read as a guy. They'll think you look awfully young for your age, and sometimes that leads to problems of its own, but that kind of problem is easier to deal with.

Congrats on starting a new novel. Don't you love that first stage of writing, when it's all new, and you're just bristling with plot and character ideas?

Thank you! Yeah, I do love starting a new writing project. But I'm so far out of practise at this point it's like wading through treacle even at the beginning. :p

Writing again? YAY! That is excellent news. I've set down the plot for an entire new story myself and have been writing it in chunks. Feels good. Ahhhh.... LOL!

If you'd care for my $0.02 in this matter: I suggest you present male for many different reasons.

And I was also beginning to wonder how you were doing...good to hear from you.

I saw that! So glad the phase outline method is working for you. :D I still haven't figured out a way to outline that will actually let me write the book. I love outlining, and I love writing . . . but so far, they don't seem to be two great tastes that taste great together, for me. :p
