Personaly I would come out strait away and if they discriminate against you, sue their ass!
It is possible to claim for compensation at employment tribunal for discrimination *before* you are employed by a company (i.e if you are discriminated against in an interview).
If you really need the job it might be worth pointing out at the same time you come out that "it is not somthing you can legaly discriminate against me for, but..." and if you still feel they are discriminating then seek advice from the Citizens Advice.
If you don't get a job after an interview, you can't really prove it was anything to do with being trans. It could just be that you weren't suitable and that's all the employer would say anyway. In that case, you can't exactly sue them.
One last thing, don't worry about posting lots. I'm one of the mods and it's nice to have an active community. Your posts are on topic so diffinatly arn't spam! :)
even if you don't get the job, make sure you ask for feedback on the interview, not only will this let you know how you can improve, it will also be a good way of telling if you didn't get the job due to discrimination.
if your not sure if there was a good reason for not employing you, get someone else to take a look at the feedback, they may be able to take a more detached view of it.
and if you really think you didnt get the job due to your being trans - sue. it's illegal to discriminate against someone because they're trans, but employers won't comply with the law unless they are compelled to. it might not help you directly (though if you win, you will get compensation) but it will make employers more hesitant about discriminating against those who come after you
Hey, i hope it went well. I hate doing it, but playing into the system is soo much easier. The reality of getting any compensation of a company for not emplying you are very slim, very long term to get, not a massive amount, and in the mean time you would need access to fund to sue, and a job to provide those funds.... catch 22.
However, once they have employed you, accepted you as the right candidate, and youve signed the contract, you have a decent leg to stand on, and any decent compnay wont give a shit at that point, becuaes they alreay think your the best for the job.
If they do give you shit about it, then join your union quick (your employer has to give you details of which one you can join) and get their support.
