Dirty jobs

So there's a 25 foot length of sewer pipe that I got to see up close and personal today. The guy with the camera showed up, and for a mere $300, he showed me the inside of my pipes.

They didn't look good. There was a section that had fallen away an inch or so from another section, meaning that water was going to the ground, not, as I was hoping, my sewer. There were all sorts of roots growing through the pipes too. They're the old iron pipes that were originally in the line, and some sections, especially by the street and under the big tree, actually looked pretty good. Some didn't though.

It was cool to see, if it had been someone else's sewer line.

The Rotorooter guy with the camera gave me an astronomical quote. I called Buttery, who is a general contractor, and she thinks that her guy can probably do it for about half the astronomical quote. I need to call him, though, and get a real quote though.

Whatever happens, there'll be a backhoe involved, and a 25 foot trench dug into my ground. It's not going to be a pretty job.

And it looks like my tax return is going in a different direction than I thought it was.

I will say, having watched a good forty five or so episodes of Dirty Jobs in the last few months gave me a much better appreciation for the plumber and the stuff that I saw in my sewer line.
