Impossible Germany and What Light from Wilco's new Sky Blue Sky album due out in May. I heard "Impossible Germany" in October when they came through San Antonio and really liked a lot. The studio version is as good.

Apparently most of the rest of the album is out there if you google for the torrents.

lavender is GREAT. REALLY low maintenance, and actually, once it is established, fairly drought tolerant -- it doesn't need a lot of water. Plus, it smells WONDERFUL and looks SO PRETTY!

And the bushes can get nice and big depending on the breed.

if you are thinking long term there are ways to save money. get hollyhock seeds now and plant them. a packet is not much.

i *think* gladiolus spread, so you cna plant a few and then then them every 3 years and plant the thinnings in more places.

you can buy little lavenders and they will get big pretty quick. they are a lot less expensive than the big gallon ones. AND as they grow you can dirt layer some stems in cool weather and when they get roots on the stems you can cut them free and have a whole new plant.

if you get roses on their own roots that spread you will get moer and more every year. and you can layer shoots of them, too. i THINK in california the ones that spread the most was an heirloom gallica that was red and white stripes. rosa mundi maybe? it only blooms once a year (maytbe twice in warm climate) but it is SO pretty with the stripy flowers. gallicas are easy to grow.

oooh! I did NOT know that about the cuttings for lavender. COOL! I wish I'd tried that earlier this year (it's prolly too late now, eh Boo?). but ya, the lavender DOES grow quickly.

i dont think it is too late at all, cause you dont want it to be forzen, you want the ground wrmed up enough for the roots to grow into it and the lavender to be making new growth.

what chris (deana maybe?) did is put off some of the leafy bits on a long branch (dont cut OFF the branch, leave it connected to the bush) and then pin down the part with the bare spot into the dirt, cover it with more dirt, and set a rock on top. dont let it dry out. it does not always work, but usually it does and the part in the dirt makes roots. once there is nice roots you cut the par that goes back to the mother plant, dig up the baby, and plant it where you want it, just make sure it is a little sheltered if you have hot weather. i think chris mostly waited til the roots were 2-3 inches long.
