Guns are the best weapons against such a threat. Only taking out the head will kill them, so aim for those.

Remember, we are supposed to help save whoever we can, and hold the zombies from escaping till the Royal Family can wipe them out. If you run into anyone that is bitten, but not a zombie yet, kill them before they turn. They would want that.
