Season 8 art

Looks like the season 8 art discussion is becoming more widespread.

Whedonesque link to aintitcool

Be interesting to see how long this stays up before the mods  take it down for daring to be to critical.
UPDATE

About a hour by the look of it . Hardly surprised cannot have anything negative said about Joss can we.

Whilst I agree the art for Faith was very bad it was interesting to see this talked about in more mainstream forum. Not a real fan of aintitcool but better that the comics are talked about logically although this was slightly rantish it did have examples. I prefer that rather than rampant fanboyism. It's the fanboyism that started in Buffy and was inflated in firefly that I think has gone to JW's head ( ... )

I didn't see any shippyness, more of a complete lack of care from Giles. Something that does go against canon, again. Giles cared about Faith and even was proud of her ( ... )

"I would rate this comic around a low 4/10. The art is very bad on the inside. and the story is garbage. It is never going to bring in new fans and show fans wills start to leave as the appearent holes form the shows later season make new homes in this rather rushed and very uninspiring story."

i wish they would. But the comic buyers on the self-same people who seem to have the mentality, Joss did it, therefore it's good.

These are the sort of muppets who argue Buffy was a good leader because she won in Season 7. Never mind the logic errors that number in their hundreds....

I wish they would just accept that Joss has some wonderful skills as a writer primary amongst them able to create being characters we love or hate . But coherent storytelling or worldbuilding is not one of them thus he can be criticized. I don't think it is doing his talent any favours by keeping him in this cocoon.

Trouble is, all the interviews I see of the man, it seems he's just the same as his fans.

You are 100% right though. His world-building and storylining stink. He thinks that people will accept illogical happenings because he said they happened.

Unfortunately with the Browncoats he's right.

But his failings and unwillingness to address them are why projects aren't being green-lit.

You're surprised that Browncoat central took down any criticism of the comics?

I've known people who've been banned for criticising writers on the show, not the man himself.

As for the artwork. That's the least of their problems.

Well they were mulling it because it was too rantish. I thought it was fairly balanced being only critical of the art providing examples as opposed to the writing but even that was deemed too much.

Still I thought it might last longer than an hour ,noticed this due to clicking on RSS feed links and finding the article was already taken down.

It became most pronounced once Joss started posting there. Masters of doublespeak. Pity because it used to be my number one stop , it seems to even extend to comments now.

Agree the art and the writing are a concern just perplexed that holding something you love to a high standard is frowned upon. I mean it did reach that standard in the past. I would give the body or BBB a 9 so how can these be a 10.

I can understand someone using it for news, because it's detailed. But opinion pieces?

Browncoats? More like Brownnoses.....

10s?

Because Joss was involved.

Ergo they must be, because Joss is perfect....

Well I use if for news and still do but recently the censorship has become much more overt and pravda like.

There has been a little grumbling on there and an occasionally attempt by some members to inject some rationality but it seems to be soon shut down.

Yep seen 10's on there and on LJ polls. Sure a fanboyish 8 I could accept but anything higher given that 9's & 10's should be reserved for classics shows a lack of critical faculties.:-)

I mean I gave it a 5.5 despite my moans which makes it just above average. I mean the season average so far is 5 which is dead average and I wonder if I'm not being a bit too kind. Looking back on issues 1 & 2 given how much I ranted I wonder if the mark is a little high.

While I like, for the most part, the direction the comics have taken, I gotta agree that Jeanty's work hasn't impressed me. If the stuff on his webpage is indicative of what he can do if he has time, I'd almost prefer the book go bi-monthly so he can make it, you know, look good. His Faith has really, really been off, and it's been bugging me.

I think his homepage may have clued me in on his problem. He is not very good at motion and since Faith is an often in motion character that is the problem he is having.

Mind you I think he has none of them right so far , occassionally in an individual panel he gets it but there is no consistency there. Plus they all appear to have been hit with a youthing ray.

I'm surprised given the delays Fray had that they have managed to stay on schedule but it seems to be at the expense of fact checking and art.

Now Chen whilst I didn't like her Willow too S6 for me is growing on me. I think her cover for the Faith arc tpb is great , fantastic likenesses of both characters.

"Faith is NOT Democratic Presidential Candidate and Former First Lady Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on a bad day." That's perfect. I've been looking for a way to describe my feelings for Faith's look in the comic, and that's it dead on.

Okay, first of all: I *like* the comic. Second, I agree completely with what that guy is saying. Third, what's the point of having a fan website if you're not going to allow all points of view? Sounds like somebody's insecure.

Absolutely but it is an increasing trend in the fandom I you dare to be critical you're not a true fan or not smart enough to understand Joss. Nevermind that his bag of tricks has become so transparent that you can predict where he is going with pretty much certainty.

I like Joss -- I think he *is* a genius, compared to the average person in Hollywood. Which isn't saying much! I believe "Firefly" is one of the top 5 TV shows in television history, ever. But come on -- he's a human being. He gets tired, he overextends, he makes mistakes, and so on.

There is a trend toward Joss sainthood, and there's also a JossHate trend in the opposite direction, of despising everything he says and does. It's ridiculous -- people are taking this way too seriously. The man's going to cause a civil war.
