What does it mean when we adapt?

Such as, are we the same people who one day were cold/unprotected/ashamed and decided to wear clothes?
Fuck, that follow up sucked.
Hold, how about this; Should we define ourselves by what we are before all of our adaptations or what we have become afterwards?
