What happens when I've been doing this for a few years?

I was going through my closet in order to get one of my good hangers for Schala, when I noticed that my really old commander Lacus cosplay was on one of the good hangers.  I took it down and tried it on, got a pretty good laugh out of my shoddy craftsmanship and took a moment to regret not wearing more than once and never getting pictures of it.  ( Read more... )

There's nothing wrong with holding onto old work. I still have plushies that I made back in 2003. If nothing else, it serves as a reminder that you have come a long way and will only continue to improve if you keep at it.

I would suggest making that cosplay again and then doing a photoshoot with both of them so you can put together side-by-side shots. It could serve as inspiration for yourself and others.

I would never throw it out! I usually put them farther into the closet and out of the way, but I like to hang on to old stuff.

Yanno, I still haven't thrown out one of my costumes. I wouldn't enter the older and more poorly-made ones in a cosplay competition, but they suffice for around-the-con cosplay.
Truth be told, I rarely enter my costumes in a cosplay competition unless I'm performing a skit. That's because I feel like I just don't stand a chance against the other cosplayers. But if I can go on stage and entertain the audience - even if I don't win anything, the cheers and applause I get is reward enough for me.

If its possible, take it apart, rebuild it and make it better. Same thing im doing with my old splinter cell cosplay, Rebuilding it with the improved tools and knowledge I learned.
