The capitalization and exclamation aren't so much an indication of my excitement, but rather how the word is presented.
I caved in the other day and bought tickets to PLAY! A Video Game Symphony, so my sister and I spent Saturday night sitting in the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, staring quietly at the stage as the members of the Symphony Silicon Valley and Chorale prepared for the upcoming performance.
Actually, we arrived about ten minutes beforehand, and since I had to go to the bathroom and wanted to buy a program (and my sister, a snack), we missed a bit of the opening fanfare. Also, I stepped on a lot of people's feet while we were going to our seats.
Anyway, it was pretty cool! Albeit, it was organized in association with Fanime Con, so the crowd was full of...interesting people. I say that because I can kind of see how others would perceive such individuals, and for whatever reason my sister and I were a bit bothered by the scene, despite having witnessed such sights before: full grown men wearing cat ear headbands, some guy in front of me talking on his cell phone about yaoi, people behind us my sister termed "gross" in every manner possible, girls (and guys) in fishnet stockings and short skirts and whatever walking around San Jose at night, and so on.
Here's an inaccurate setlist (I can't remember), plus some thoughts.
Super Mario Bros. - Nifty. I recognized it but I don't play that much Mario, so it sort of went over my head.
Shenmue - Yes! It seemed like nobody knew this song/game, though. One of my favorites from the performance.
Sonic the Hedgehog - I can't really remember. Don't play much Sonic either.
Metal Gear Solid - I liked this one too.
Kingdom Hearts - Meh.
Lair - Really long. It's that one game that hasn't come out yet... Anyway, the conductor (not Arnie Roth) looked like Dwight Shrute. I liked the ending.
World of Warcraft - Awesome piece, though I don't play the game.
Blue Dragon - It was OK.
Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross - I loved this! I love Yasunori Mitsuda's work.
The Darkness - Another game not out yet. I liked the choral parts. Pretty cool.
Oblivion - Haven't played the games, but I appreciate Jeremy Soule.
Halo - I've been listening a lot to the Halo soundtracks lately. Another of my favorites.
The Legend of Zelda - I'm not much of a Zelda fan (if one at all), but it was cool.
One-Winged Angel (Encore) - I liked it!
OK I've totally mixed up the middle, and I might have even forgotten some.
I'm a little sad about the lack of Final Fantasy VIII, Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus, and Castlevania, but whatever. Also not many actual composers present, which was a little disappointing. But I got to see Jeremy Soule! It was shorter than I'd anticipated, but that's fine. I'm pretty glad I went, though I would've rather had the cheaper seats.

Recent news of the possible Halo movie have been all but sparse, but if it comes out I'll probably watch it. Same with Hitman, among others. Speaking of Halo, the newest episode of Red vs Blue is pretty hilarious. I love the ideas those guys have, heh.
P.S.
I want Master Chief. XD
Among my fellow killer7 fans, has anyone purchased
the Killer7 Trade Paperback? I was looking around to see whether another issue of the comics was going to be released and spotted this. Also just learned that the series got canceled. DAMN.
In video-games-I'm-playing news, I'm still not done with Psychonauts. I made it past that annoying part after much practice, and am now having trouble with...that guy that looks like
this (image courtesy of
theredshadow). Well, not trouble with "him," considering he doesn't do that much damage. I actually did that part twice before I had to leave to go home for the weekend, but both times I failed, grah. I'll get it done!
Also got bootleg copies of Starcraft and its expansion packs from one of my friend's friends, so that's pretty cool. I spent much of the weekend trying to track down a stupid copy (only $10, thanks to a price drop), but to no avail. I'll spend some time this week playing it, if I get the chance.
Still sucking at Hard mode on Guitar Hero II. Then again I practice once every two/three weeks, haha.
Oh man, a sudden urge to play some Bully. Why when I'm back at my dorm?
I spent Sunday afternoon doing a little shopping and picked up Rufus Wainwright's Release the Stars and Electric Six's Señor Smoke. Then...something. Also worked on a shirt and discovered new techniques. I also realized this may be a little tougher to do than I'd originally planned. But, summer vacation is coming up and I'm going to finish all shirts for sure...
While working on aforementioned shirt, I watched Whale Rider, which I needed to watch for my Native American Studies class. It was a pretty cool movie, and I got teary at some parts. Unfortunately I have to write an essay about it by tomorrow, which takes away some of the fun. Another one due this Thursday too, yuck.
I applied for a job at Borders and realized I kinda screwed up on my application. I'm also applying for local GameStops, but I'm afraid of getting a job there because I know I'll suck at doing retail. Also, horror stories. Rather a turn off.
OK, need to work on this paper!
