Reading and writing for 2015

Time for this yearly roundup! I realized I only wrote ONE review this year...I should probably try harder about that next year. Also I read a lot more than this, but I don't actually add any stories that are under 10k, because they're just not long enough and the list would go on forever. Also I actually did try to not read anything by male authors ( Read more... )

Reading lists: what a great idea akerushin January 11 2016, 00:04:59 UTC
I buy so many ebooks that I have a hard time keeping track of what I've read I should start a reading list (or as some people have done, create a goodreads account). However most of the time I don't even want to remember the books I've read because the titles are mediocre and don't merit a re-read let alone a first read. Perhaps I am just hypercritical or have a technology-induced short attention span. Unfortunately you can never tell what you're going to get even from an excerpt of the first chapter. Reviews can also be misleading since people have different tastes in books.

Have you read Charles de Lint? Some of his titles are pretty good if you're into urban fantasy. However I haven't read any of his newer titles so perhaps my memories of his books make them better than they actually are.

Sorry for the late comment, I check LJ so infrequently now...

I keep meaning to make a Goodreads account that's not connected to my author name, so I can review books there without getting into author fights or 'hurt someone's feelings' because their book was only mediocre. Generally I stay away from Goodreads and don't propel my reviews into an author's face, I just stay in my own little corner and write reviews for other people to see. But yeah everyone has such different opinions on books, and I'm usually in the minority. My standards are so high, and usually it's because I can see so many easy ways to fix the bad aspects that I get frustrated at why they weren't fixed. And then there's the constant problem of sexism, racism, and homophobia (including in lgbt+ books) that I no longer have any tolerance for ( ... )
