Reading and writing for 2015

Time for this yearly roundup! I realized I only wrote ONE review this year...I should probably try harder about that next year. Also I read a lot more than this, but I don't actually add any stories that are under 10k, because they're just not long enough and the list would go on forever. Also I actually did try to not read anything by male authors ( Read more... )

I keep meaning to make a Goodreads account that's not connected to my author name, so I can review books there without getting into author fights or 'hurt someone's feelings' because their book was only mediocre. Generally I stay away from Goodreads and don't propel my reviews into an author's face, I just stay in my own little corner and write reviews for other people to see. But yeah everyone has such different opinions on books, and I'm usually in the minority. My standards are so high, and usually it's because I can see so many easy ways to fix the bad aspects that I get frustrated at why they weren't fixed. And then there's the constant problem of sexism, racism, and homophobia (including in lgbt+ books) that I no longer have any tolerance for.

I haven't read him, but I am very gunshy of male authors right now because of aforementioned issues in books (and not only lgbt+ books, all books with male suthors, especially SFF). Female authors often have the same problems but there's a far lower chance of it.

Haha I don't thin there's any such thing as a 'late' LJ comment anymore - I don't even expects comments at all here!
