Memories to last a lifetime
Tonight marks the end of our tour of China...oh and pharmacy rotation :) Professor Hu hosted a farewell dinner last night at Spicy Grandma with the pharmacy folk. A very nice send-off...and very spicy! Dumpling man
Yesterday we hit up the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution in the morning. It wasn't exactly my kind of museum, but it had a small exhibit of some nice photographs of China and it was interesting to learn a little bit more about China's history. Forbidden fruit
Jasmin and Brad finally arrived yesterday afternoon. We spent our Friday night at the karaoke lounge appropriately named Party World. The best part aside from the surprisingly large English music selection was the buffet :). Not the food so much, but the snacks. I was finally able to have a waffle for the first time in a month! Beijing
Nothing too exciting has taken place since my last post except for some interesting conversations among my peers and random stroke patients befriending Doug. In short, the conversations revolved around the negative connotations the Chinese has of Japanese culture. In the end, we were able to prove the stories to be untrue (or so we hope). A windy day for wisdom
The man known to the Western world as Confucius may be primarily equated with wisdom or learning. Upon visiting the Temple of Confucius (Kong Miao), I was exposed to the deep history of this philosopher/teacher/reformer and his legacy. Saturday night fever
As if Cassy and I haven't had our fill of haggling to last us a lifetime, we again set out for the Pearl Market with Rachie and Doug in tow. Cassy rode her first Beijing subway ride (2RMB/one way trip!) but the cars were so crowded, so perhaps it wasn't the most pleasant experience. First night out
Dough (O Dao Ge), Cassy (Kai Ci), and I went out to sample the Beijing night life for the first time since our arrival in Beijing. We headed to Houhai Lake District which was full of small restaurants and bars lining the lake. It took a bit to find it, but we did and it was a pretty interesting experience--lights, people, music.

Brain fart
Last night Cassy and I joined some of the professors and pharmacists for our first Chinese Sichuan style hot pot aka shabu shabu. It was delicious and even better, the restaurant gave away free snacks, fruit, soy bean drinks, manicures and shoe shines while you wait. Pure genious. I was totally stuffed by the end of the night. I dreamt of Canada
Curious, indeed. I guess some time yesterday, we mentioned something about Canada in passing. This morning I told the classmates how I dreamt I was living somewhere in Manitoba and found a girl's cell phone who got kidnapped. Interestingly, Doug also had a dream about being in Vancouver...except it was an island. Not really sure how that correlates ( Read more... ) -
A walk in the park
We started our day a little later than usual and tried to locate a post office for Doug to mail some postcards, to no avail. I also purchased a calling card and added more money to the cell phone. I'm going to need Rachie to help me figure out how to use the calling card. When I do, international calls will be 0.15 RMB/minute!
