Another for the "I Solemnly Swear to Read Patient Histories" file:

"So, these are just for reading, huh?"

I couldn't help but laugh. That might even top the resident who asked me, in a worried voice, if I wouldn't mind telling her how I had "hurt my eye". Maybe.

During my mother's early experiences of Biology, arrows could be found with associated labels: "Mitochondria, function unknown".

Gray's doesn't even try for mitochondria - the diagram has "cell wall", "attraction sphere (centrosphere) enclosing two centrosomes", "nucleus", "chromatin network", "net-knot of chromatin forming a pseudo-nucleus", "vacuoles", and "fat granules" labeled.

Work? Nonsense! Procrastination in all things, sleep included.

I'm not asleep because of books, and the Internet. The two feed one another, and then suddenly it's four in the morning and I remember that I planned to go to bed at a reasonable hour. I also know too many people in too many different time-zones, and get caught up in discussions with them because it's only midnight (or, what, nine in the morning?) where they are. ;)
