the blood moon

Yeeks, lunar eclipse! Shit is going to be fucked up tonight!

And here's me and all I want to do is curl up and read comics. I have just started two series that are both so similar in storyline and tone to Heroes that I think both comics creators should sue Tim Kring - or maybe they already went tag-team in a kiddie pool filled with nacho cheese ( Read more... )

Wait you read this, right?

I would do it but I'm enslaved by fiber. Or we could have a two person renaissance. Whatever.

yep, I've read it. But thanks anyway. terebi_me March 3 2007, 23:27:14 UTC
Well, the short answer is, I know HOW to do it; I am surrounded by the process all day long, five days a week, and I increasingly read comics on the weekends, too. It's about how to get the right idea, because once the right idea is in my mind, I know exactly how to go about scripting it and how it's done ( ... )

straczynski is amazing. B5 was way too long of a run to be a fluke.

Wild Card book series predates Rising Stars... Wild Card was great. Lew Shiner did a lot of the editing. Lots or writers each contributing a short story, the plots slowly wove together... it's the uncredited source of a lot of recent world-with-superhero ideas.

On another note, you should come to my cocktail party. There will be a couple other writers there.

I gotta get into my work email so I can get your email address - but I will definitely try to move heaven and earth to be there. :)

Oh yeah, I heard about Wild Card ages and ages ago, but of course, being me, never bothered to check it out. I have a feeling I definitely will now, and hopefully, so will other people.

I very much enjjoyed both Rising Stars and Midnight Nation (a 12 issue comic run by JMS).

Midnight Nation is probably a bit more tightly written, I found that Rising Stars suffered from the gap in writing (there was huge gap between issues 21 and 22 because of a legal dispute between JMS and the comic line producer) - while it was clear that he reached the same endpoint he always meant to, it seemed like he reached it differently, and threads that were introduced in issues 20 or 21, for example, never did get fleshed out properly.

Much as I enjoyed Babylon-5, I found the same thing with B5 spacing. The "renew/not-renew" havoc the networks played meant that he altered his writing in the 4th season to allow himself to end the story there if need be, and while he got to perhaps introduce new things because of this i the 5th season, there were stuff I remember finding not resolved as much as I would have liked to have seen.

I agree completely. I am not a fan of the fifth season of B5; I don't like where they went with Sheridan and Delenn's characters, even though they went in the only logical direction they could go, it was still sad. Fifth season was all about Londo and G'kar, anyway.

Londo and G'Kar were probably my favourite thing about the entire show.

Londo and G'Kar from the 2nd season on, when you see them falling into the dooms their choices have made for them. Coming of Shadows still moves me to tears.

I had a whole lot of favorite things, but they definitely became my favorite as the show progressed and suddenly Sheridan and Delenn were like those two awesome friends that you want to hook up, finally hook up, and then become self-righteous and boring. ;)

Pretty much every time I see Londo I'm either tearing up, or I'm howling with laughter at something inappropriate he just said. Just looking at pictures of Londo - or to a lesser extent, G'kar - makes me cry because of the tragedy that is his story. JMS is the undisputed master of the tragic fate; Joss Whedon is like a kindergardner in comparison.
