SYBIL (why would they remake a TV movie about a psychological case study that's been PROVEN AS A FRAUD?!?!?! And notice that the press release says NOTHING about the fact that it's not based on a "true" anything? Not that I'm not a huge fan of the book in the same way that I'm a huge fan of, but take it as literal truth in the same way as DONNIE ( Read more... )

"Why no LAND OF THE LOST?"

Er...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457400/

It was already remade, anyway--there was a new series back in the early nineties for a few years.

The Ten Commandments, I with you on. I love the fifties movie to a probably unreasonable degree, and it's one of my favorite things to get high with people and watch. I can't imagine any new version replacing that.

I really wanted to like the original tv movie of Sybil, but the monologue-ness and genital mutilation squick factor just kill it.

If it were a just world, people would know about 'The Nanny' (Bette Davis movie) instead of Sybil.

The original Sybil scarred me when I happened to see it as a kid.
Though, it doesn't have to be true for them to make a remake of it.

What about the propsed remake of "Logan's Run?" Only bright point in that is that it's Bryan Singer, but still. I will continue my rant of the last ten years about how there's not a single original idea in the US movie industry anymore. Can you name 5 Hollywood-made films from the last year that were not remakes/sequels, based on "true" events, or adaptations? The one that I can't get over was "The Producers." A film of a musical based on a film. That's scraping the bottom of the barrel. Oh, but I think the Schumacher "Phantom of the Opera" is actually below that. I could go on, and on. I think I need to watch some Tarkovsky or something. - Cel.

I recommend HOLY MOUNTAIN or UN CHIEN ANDALOU just as a palate cleanser.
