So my extra userpics expired, and I've gone from, like, 200 icons...all the way down to 1. Now I know what everyone was talking about when this happened to them...a year ago...when people still visited this place. It's bizarre to rid myself of some of those icons, not only because I loved them as dearly as a countess loves her jewels, but also ( Read more... )

I don't know, dude. It seems like there is this ravenous necessity to recreate beloved books as films, and in some cases (perhaps in this one), the mediums won't correlate with one another. I'd rather never see a film version of one of my favorite books than to watch an ill-cast actress play a certain role, even if she is the reason for the entire production of the film (and again, what does that say of its probability of being made into a movie in the first place?). More and more, movies aren't about the right actors in terms of the roles, but more so in terms of the audience. Will the public be more compelled to see a nobody who perfectly suits the role of Sam, or would they rather see someone they've come to love via the biggest film franchise of all time? The answer is annoyingly obvious.

OK I had no idea that the author wrote the screenplay. That helps a bit! Although I am still critical of the transition of a novelist into a screenwriter. Ugh, sorry I am such a negative Nancy! I think I have been brainwashed by being both a film AND fiction writing student! It's difficult to go into either situation of seeing a movie or reading a book and being able to take the effort at face value.

I saw Snow White and the Hunstman last night and I'm slowly starting to hate it more, now that I think back on it. I liked the visuals and Charlize Theron. I always love her. But it physically pained me to see Kristen Stewart as Snow White. And the dwarves weren't even dwarves! And I'm tired of Chris Hemsworth's weird hairline! Ugh!

I feel the same way about Charlize: she can do little to no wrong in my book. And she was definitely the best part of Snow White, both her character and her costumes. That's something else I take issue with, though. She said in the beginning of the movie that she would not bow down to men who used her only for her beauty, and we the audience are supposed to side against that? Why on earth am I meant to take Kristen Stewart's side when she has zero personality in the movie, including no special talent beyond being "the chosen one?" It's BS! And people are saying this is a girl power movie! Give me a break! The whole reason that Snow White is "the chosen one" is because her mother wanted to have a beautiful daughter. So again, beauty is held above all else, at least in regard to women. I don't know - I just found the whole thing upsetting. And if we're going to base everything on appearance, in what world, in what universe, is Kristen Stewart "fairer" than Charlize Theron? I just have a lot of feelings.

Amen to all of this! The whole premise was unsettling. I can see how it can be a girl power movie near the end when she is at the head of the battle charge. But that's pretty much it. The rest of it was far too awkward acting and just side glances - I guess all that she's good at. And her choking on the apple face is the same as her "Shit, A Vampire Bit Me" face.

Completely unrelated, but are you still keeping up with True Blood?

Ugh see that whole battle sequence was maybe the worst part of the movie to me for that exact reason: people see her swing her sword once and they instantly think that such a move adds validity to the whole "girl power" thing. And how anticlimactic was the end between Charlize and Kristen?! They finally come face to face, Snow White struggles and whimpers, and then finds a way to stealthily stab the Evil Queen in the stomach? So disappointing.

Yes, I watched the first episode of season 5 today! Have you seen it yet? That show just never stops moving.
