SGA not renewed

Apparently they will go the movie route, too. The first one is being paid for by Sci Fi and will run there before it goes to DVD.

Ain't that just sucky? What's worse is that M&M will probably write the script.

What a waste.

sg, sga

I've never watched Atlantis, but I empathise with the fans who are upset at its cancellation. MGM is obviously making money out of the movies, but the logistics of gathering the cast together each time does concern me as to the long-term future of such a project.

I just found out. Blah.

Gateworld says M&M will definitely write the movie. More blah. I have liked both SG-1 movies, but Scribe is right, it will get more and more difficult to get the cast together. And it's not the same.

I think actor contracts ended, etc., so they probably didn't want to bother.

That's what I thought. They have unhappy cast members, they've got major friction between JF and JM. And they have to renegotiate everyone's contract.

Plus, I'm betting the producers get a decent amount of money for a feature and don't have to work nearly as hard as they would for 20 eps. The show was doomed when they put Mallozzi in charge because he is always looking for Easy Street.

I know you really liked this show and I'm sorry the series is over.

Very true. I think it might be easier to get the SG1 cast together as they are all willing; they can work around other projects if they're willing.

I think Flanigan despises Mallozzi and will be happy enough not to repeat Sheppard; he'll probably ask for a lot of money.

I knew I'd be unhappy, but I'm really bummed. I KNOW "it's only TV" but I feel as if my friends John, Rodney, Teyla, and Ronon were just given a death sentence. Blah.

When SG-1 was cancelled, the Jack and Daniel show had been gone for years. So I was unhappy, but not devastated. But Atlantis is still a lot of fun for me. Really, I'll miss the fanfic as much as the show, because realistically the fan writers will soon be off to whatever new shiny thing comes along.

Fuck.

The team will live on in fanfic--and the occasional movie if you're lucky.

And I know this was your show and it sucks they took it away after only 5 years. I'm sorry and I'd buy you a beer if we lived closer.

Yeah, there will be a drop in the amount of fanfic but have you read everything that's out there already? *g*

I'm bummed because I really like the Stargate and that's it for now. There is that new show but honestly, calling it Universe fills me with dread.

I like Criminal Minds but when you compare it to the utter scope of what's possible in fanfic, it pales. It's all about the characters for me and CM has great characters--but it's ALWAYS gonna be about serial killers and the like. The SG shows are so much shinier than that--even if the PTB are dipshits.

Again, I'm sorry.

Thanks for the sympathy.

I know that some SG-1 fans might be thinking (and even saying), "So how does it feel now that it's your turn in the barrel?" And, though I didn't feel quite as bad last year with SG-1, that was mostly because SG-1 was no longer the show I fell in love with. SGA still is.

The fanfic will go on for a while. But most authors will move along to the new shiny (just as many of them moved from SG-1 to SGA).

The SG shows are so much shinier than that--even if the PTB are dipshits.

I am more amazed every year that TPTB have actually created not one, but TWO, shows that I've loved so much. I'm very afraid they won't be able to catch lightning in a bottle a third time. Especially since I believe times one and two were a lot due to actor chemistry.

I bet the resounding lack of people eager to see the show go on had a lot to do with it.

And yes, actor chemisty is what made those shows so likeable.

All they have to do for Universe is hire one decent actor and be sure he has good chemistry with one other actor. Then they can sit back on their lazy asses and turn out mediocre scripts. Fans will flock to them.

Bastards!!!
