Unbeated
The surge of energy through his body forced him up into a sitting position. He breathed deep, the pain in his lungs from a moment earlier was now gone. He looked at his hands, as if to confirm what he already knew. The hands were different, yet completely familiar. It had worked! Shuffling came from behind him.
“Doctor?” asked a timid voice.
“You were expecting someone else?” Stupid girl, he thought. Who else would it be?
“I ... I …I….”
It was all about her wasn’t it? Never mind the fact that he just saved her life!
“Three I’s in one breath make you sound a very egotistical young lady.” He didn’t care if he sounded rude. He had other, more important things to deal with. He squinted at the far wall. This new incarnation had perfect vision! The glasses would get put away, just like the clothes and hat. He wouldn’t need them.
“What’s happened?”
Finally deciding to give her a direct answer he spoke. “Change my dear. And it seems not a moment too soon.” Pushing himself up, he stood and strode around the room. This body was taller, bigger. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket he began to brush the mud from his coat.
Yes, he would definitely like this new body.
