That's REALLY tricky to say. For now I am going to say no.

However, an idea that was had was that the "Template!Universe" characters could POSSIBLY originate from this Template. This would allow CR to be kept - but there are problems with this obviously since the same people may not be applying for the same characters. Also, we actually would need an app if that were the case. The app would allow us to know which CR was kept, memories, personality changes and... yeah.

Sorry, I'm awful with explanations. But until we can figure out how to get around the quirks it'll be a no.

Since I know your new game != not Template, but you mentioned that those who have apped here wouldn't have to app at the new game, could that be a way around that?

But yeah, that seems like the best way around any issues that could be had. However, it has yet to really be discussed so I gotta hold off on the definite answers. Greatest apologies for that. ♥;

I'm with Raini on the option of keeping characters intact from here! If something needs to be added as an app addressing their Template history that's fine with me. It's mainly the development in Template that we're most concerned about keeping, and CR between any characters from the Template game (Template and Original) being brought over. I'd never expect a new player of a character to abide by old CR. It's like if someone dropped and a new person picked up that character anyway, you know? My character might have known an "alternate version" but they won't have any history with the new one. Unless of course, they're from the same original canon. ;P

And sorry if that all doesn't make sense, it's just my initial reaction! I'm sad to see the old comm go, but it seems like it's time for something new. And it's cool to see you've been brainstorming on that.

We will most certainly take that into consideration. Our biggest concern was giving Template players the benefit of the doubt application wise. But if CR is more treasured than the torture involved in writing an application, I think it is totally doable. :>

Thank you greatly for your understanding. ... There really wasn't an easy way to put this without stepping on toes. This sort of feedback is at the least, a kind relief. Though there is much to be worked on still. Hoooboy.

Yeah. It's understandable! It might even be good to have an option of either keeping as they are or restarting them? Since I'm not too sure what all the people remaining would prefer doing! I think for people who want to keep that history intact, they'll be willing to write stuff up. It may not even have to be a full app? Maybe something that explains the important parts of their history here and if there are any significant changes to the character?

No worries. I do agree that something new and different has to happen, and it'll take some work to get going.

Yes perhaps. I see what you are getting at and naturally those multiple options would be available, it just seems fair. Though to have a full app or not is a good question. Since history and CR greatly impact personality, it's almost a domino kind of effect. Which questions whether or not certain parts SHOULD be allowed to be skipped. ... Am I making sense? Point is, I got'cha and we will totally try to figure that out. At least we have an idea on opinions now and I thank yous for that. ♥

Hopefully, CR can possibly be kept. As long as it is explained in the application process. -- That's what is hoped for, however, I still can't give any definite answers. Cross your fingers, yeah?

Question though: what do we do with our character journals in the meantime, if we want to bring our characters back when Template reopens? Do we have to defriend everyone or can we just leave them alone?

As far as I can tell, it's completely up to you. We're actually moving to an entirely different community, so the old template_rpg and friends won't be used anymore. It would probably be good housekeeping to just defriend everyone, so you can start over fresh with your journals, but if and when you do that is up to you.

As your comm affiliate and a former player I have to say aww. :< (Man, playing Zack here was fun! And so was building the locations list. :3) I saw what you guys said about possibly not being able to keep CR in the new game, either. Couldn't you maybe make an option for porting characters? It would probably require a more in-depth app process, but Template's was already pretty heavy to begin with, and I'm pretty sure it would work out in the end. We've been trying it over at moksa_u, ourselves.
