"A tea party." It was a simple enough explanation. After said explanation, he tipped his head in the direction of his friend. "This is Ianto Jones. I have no intention of making this into a blind date as I am still hoping for Misaki and you to become princess and prince respectively." He felt that this was an important fact that needed to be said or else they might get the wrong idea ( ... )

"That's belonging with," Ianto told him. "And even then it's too idealistic to always be the case."

"That is how many see things. There is a certain feeling that is associated with that and it's a sense of belonging. Even then, many feel that there is that one person out there who completes them and makes them feel more alive than they have ever felt before. However, it is different for each person. Sometimes, such feelings are not returned."
There was just a hint of a pause. "Not everyone feels that way, but there are plenty who are."

"Why is it too idealistic?" The clone directed the question to both of them.
"Like people who remind others that they have a heart." Nataku happily ate the piece of pie that he cut for himself before sitting down. He wondered if he was supposed to wait for the others to eat theirs before he should start, but it seemed like a waste for it not to be eaten. That was the purpose of its existence, was it not?

He shrugged, taking a careful sip of his coffee and chewing on a slice of pie to calm himself before he replied. "Things don't always work out. Sometimes feelings aren't returned, sometimes people are left with no choice but to leave... even if people remain a couple for the rest of their lives one of them will die before the other."

"It's as Ianto says. Unfortunately, not everything is meant to be. The world we live in is not as perfect as we would wish for it to be. Any number of things can factor into the outcome. But those are the odds one chooses to face if it is for something they wish to believe in."

"One of them will die before the other?" Obviously, this thought had not crossed his mind. "But if people are really meant for one another would it not be right that they always are together? It does not seem like the correct course of action that the world is unfair to those that should be together. Is there no way to change how the world is?"
Reply
"Well, you can't stop a person from dying." He pointed out.

"To change the world in such a way means to change the laws that govern life and death. Yet, one can surpass just that. You see, some believe in an afterlife -- a place where you go once you leave this life behind. There, they live forever. In a sense, yes. You could be together, forever, with someone."

Nataku remembered what he was told when he first came here. Not so much that the third level was full of nightmares, but that he had died and that is why he is now here. That may not be true for everyone, but it still begged the question. "Is this our afterlife? Does that mean we can be with the people that we like forever as well?"
Reply
"I don't think this is our afterlife." He settled on eventually.

"There are several who believe they should be dead, but perhaps this is their second chance, instead." For Ovan, it was many things. By all means he shouldn't technically even be alive, yet there he as. It was simply a tip of the hat to the enigma that so tightly wrapped itself around the man. "It's not so much as an afterlife as a different opportunity."

That seemed more that unfortunate. Was he incorrect in trying to find those that were best suited for one another if they were just going to be separated? While he was aware that he still had quite a bit to learn and understand, he had hoped that this was one thing that he had quite a handle on.

"Not all of us die-- some of us get to go back home." Ianto told him, trying to cheer him up slightly. Or at least that's what he assumed happened when people disappeared from Template.

"After all -- if something is meant to be, then it can overcome any obstacle put before it."
