The local bookstore had a sale today, and I bought several very yummy books that I've had my eye on for quite a while, including a lavish book on Hadrian, Ad Infinitum (a book on the history of Latin), and a biography of Augustus. The one book that has been absolutely taunting me these days is Azincourt by Bernard Cornwell, because it's only out in hardcover and I really can't justify buying a hardcover at full price. That, and I really want a copy of the Ives Anne Boleyn biography, but it's also expensive. Feh.

I was able to buy a few of the books I've wanted at a discount yesterday...but there are so many more that I'm still looking at longingly! Such is the life of a bibliophile...

And, yes, I, too, liked that Pan's Labyrinth reflected the old idea that faerie tales were generally about why you didn't go into the woods at night.

Yes--the fact that the world of Pan's Labyrinth is actually potentially *dangerous*. That gets lost sometimes, so it was nice to see it there.
