Tamsin, for the billionth time

Aug 11, 2010 19:09

I knew better, but I did it anyway. Oops.

I'm having one of those feeling-jealous-because-I-just-read-Tamsin-again sorts of days (well, several days). There aren't actually that many books in the world that I wish I'd written, funnily enough: there are plenty of books I love, of course, and plenty of books that have had the sort of effects on me ( Read more... )

tamsin, fantasy, why does history hate me, bookery

Goodness, you sure know how to talk up a book! Suddenly I'm dying to read this one! :-)

Hee! I've read it so many times, and I *still* don't think I can properly explain why I love it! But I do recommend it--as you see. :)

::adds Tamsin to list of books To Be Read::

It just so happens that I will be in the Midwest over the weekend where one can still find Half-Price Books. ;)

Also, I definitely understand that feeling; I feel the same way about The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's one of those books that, to me, is just perfect. Also Dorothy Dunnett.

Ah, Half-Price Books. I miss you. (Sometimes my mom and I do make it out there, when I'm home, but not always. Which is probably a good thing, since I have enough books already!)

I've still only read one book by Guy Gavriel Kay: A Song for Arbonne (if that is in fact the title; I think I was in high school). I remember liking it, though; I should probably get around to reading something else, one of these days.

I miss it too! I practically lived there most of my life. ;)

A Song for Arbonne was the first GGK I ever read and I adored it. Tigana is also wonderful, but my absolute favourite has to be Lions of Al-Rassan. I cry every single time I read it. Like clockwork.

I'll definitely have to look into more of his books! Possibly with tissues on hand. :)

Ooh! One of my neighbors/dad's friends is friends with Peter Beagle. So there are only 3 degrees of separation between you and him /cool story bro

I read that book years ago, I remember not really understanding it that much. I should give it a go again, you make it sound fantastic.

Heh--small world!

I think I did have to read Tamsin twice before I fell in love with it: obviously I liked it enough to want to read it again, that first time, but on the second read I was like, "How did I not notice how awesome this book was, the first time???"

I put this on hold at the library--definitely looking forward to reading it! And didn't you recommend Guardian of the Dead? I think you did. I checked that out and LOVED it (and passed it on to my husband, who also loved it), so thanks for the recs!
