Various things that are tangentially related to the public library:

1. My request for Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey came in, so I stayed up until after 4 AM to read it. This is one of my Patented Idiot Moves, because I'm really tired now, but I can't say I regret it. If you've been here any time at all, you probably know that it pains and ( Read more... )

Ha ha, you too? I stayed up until 330 the other daymorning reading The Passage, which is a post-apocalyptic vampire story done right(yes, it is possible!). Also, I love the Demon's Lexicon books SO MUCH. I finished the second one a few days ago. It's one of the stories I just don't want to end. All of the characters can stand around being themselves forever, please. I was especially pleased by the story she gave Mae in this one.

Hee. I thought maybe I would outgrow this particular problem, but apparently once it's summer again and I don't have to teach or attend lecture, I go right back to doing it!

And I am so looking forward to Demon's Covenant. I want more Mae and more Alan especially (separate or together, whatever; I'll take it).

Oh, I just got Demon's Covenant from the library, too! I had forgotten that it was in my stack--I'll have to pull it out! *waves palm in front of your eyes* There IS no dissertation.

ooh, excited to hear that about Guardian of the Dead, I've been trying to get a hold of a copy of that for a while. (I'm in the middle of the Demon's Covenant as we speak! :)

Yeah, it's been pretty popular around here as well; I put the request in a while ago!

I really really liked Demon's Covenant. It has ladies! Being awesome!

Lost in Austen is totally enraging! Also Amanda keeps that same hairstyle THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE THING which is INSANELY RIDICULOUS. It looks SO STUPID with 19th-century garb that it made me want to punch things.

*adds Guardian of the Dead to library queue POST-HASTE*

Argh, I KNOW. Someone get that woman some hairpins or something, stat!

I'm looking forward to Demon's Covenant, yay!

All of those books sound so terrific, but I am advoiding fiction until I finish my own piece. I want to pen something unique, but each time I pick up something and it is just BRILLIANT I get discouraged with my own vision and voice.

Oh, I have that feeling, too; it's irritating, especially because I think I have more ideas when I'm reading good books! They make me want to write, but they also make me feel like I can't compete, sometimes.

Anyway, best of luck with your piece.
