I know, right? FFn just seems to attract quite a... variety of responses, so to speak.
To be honest, I'm tempted to just reply "I hate you, too" and leave it at that, but I don't think the joking tone would convey well over the interwebs.
I think some of it is just things coming out wrong because you can't tell tone in text well, plus I get the impression that a lot of the people on fanfiction are younger than the ones on livejournal.
Oh definitely the users of FFn are way younger. I guess LJ also has a more... communal feel? Like you can tell when I've seen the movies or something, which makes the interaction more personal than on FFn which is a more purely fanfic/reader experience.
Then again, some readers are just stupid. I've had someone comment on a story clearly labelled character a/character b, only to complain that they hated that pairing and why would I dare write that pairing? -sigh-
LOL! I'd probably find that even funnier if it was a review for my fic. *G*
I feel the same way you do about old fic. In fact, about a decade ago now I made a special point of uploading a bunch of stuff I wrote when I was in my early teens. I've kept everything I've ever written- it helps keep me humble. Plus you never know when you might be able to revive some random stupid idea you had years ago.
I don't publish everything I write, but I've yet to delete a lot of it off my computer. Part of it is nostalgia, the other part is my tendency to hoard things. :P
Also, re: pretentiousness; I think I was pretty pretentious when I was younger, too. Thought I had most of the world figured out and as I get older I realise everything is so much bigger than I could have ever dreamed. :)
Excuse me while I laugh my head off. So self-righteous (admittedly, exactly what I'd expect from a Twilight fan) and demanding! I just wanna pinch his/her/xir cheeks!
Oh, this is bringing back memories of badfic past >_> I like to think I've matured since then but just to keep myself humble, I go through my old folders and shudder. Glad to know others believe in humility too XD
(And honestly, I don't know why I still even have a FFn account. AO3 is where I've posted 90% of my fic anyway, and I'm moving my one FFn fic to AO3 as soon as I edit it. FFn has earned the title "The Pit" and frankly, that's pretty accurate. :U Huh.)
I can't bring myself to read my old fic. It's enough that I know it's there, it exists, oh dear lord I actually wrote that. ^^;;
I keep my FFn account from habit, I guess. No reason to delete it and I like to make sure I have my username in the platforms I encounter so no one can try to impersonate me (unlikely) or if I ever want to use the site I have my penname saved.

Anyway, I HATE YOU WRITE ME MORE has always been a... confusing message to me. haha. You should reply with something suitably nonsensical.
