I think this might sound as if I am repeating by rote what the others have said but this story rings very true in terms of the spoken and unspoken past you as a reader can guess at, but cannot know. And you need to know only the present and the hopes for their future and futures.

I love how human they both are and how perfectly imperfect. Thank you for providing this wonderful context to the poem :)

Gosh, I enjoyed this a lot; the urgency battling with the fear, Sean scared half witless but knowing he needs to talk to Vig, needs to be honest, and both of them being brave. Very cool! :)

There is a fractured sort of realism to this, stripped of much background, that makes it sound like a conversation between strangers, overheard in a cafe. It gives it a very different and interesting quality. Thanks for posting.

From "Sean let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding. "I wasn't sure if you'd be there to come back to." He looked down at his hands. "I didn't dare count on it." "

To ""I'll be fine, now," he promised softly, nuzzling into Sean's neck and inhaling deeply."

And all the love, despair and passion in between . . . it was a wonderful exploration of their feelings of want, missing, needing, loving.

And an excellent exploration. I'm so very glad you decided to "fix" lunch!!
