This morning my scale indicated that I have lost a total of 51 pounds since I started bike commuting, and since I got the fancy fat monitoring scale the fraction of my total mass that is fat has gone down by 10%. Which means that most of that 51 pounds that I lost was actually fat. 50 pounds is about the same weight as 6 gallons of water. Those

Note that there is a (sort of) negative feedback loop operating here- as your body loses weight, it spends less energy just moving around- so your final approach to your intended weight may be slower than the initial rate of weight loss. This isn't an idea that I have specific empirical backing for, but it seems to follow simply enough from plausible assumptions. So if such a slowdown happens, I hope you aren't discouraged. You've done a great job so far.
