Sourdough, the starter

Feb 10, 2010 22:08

I fed my starter for the second time this evening. Oh, my. It smells *heavenly*! It's rising slowly, but there's life in that there bowl and it's enjoying it's "dinner" whenever I give it to it. Ooh! What recipe did you use?

May have to ask the housemates if they would object to sourdough starter. (Suspect the answer would be yes, but ah well)

This one: http://www.sourdoughhome.com/startingastarter.html

It's a great site. I don't know that I'll agree with every single thing he has to say, but I feel like I'm getting a good basis to make my own decisions from.

Ah, tell 'em to suck it up and eat the bread. ;-)

Your daughter sounds very cool! I guess having you as her mom might be one reason why.

The thought of the sourdough bread is making me hungry, it would go so well with the lamb ragout I am planning for tomorrow. Of course, that's why it would never work for me - the only time I'd make the starter is when I want the bread and sourdough just doesn't work like that.

The nice thing is it keeps in the fridge for a month between feedings with no trouble... though you do have to take it out a few days ahead of time, feed it a few times and *then* use it. :-)
