[Jilly always loved stories of magic. C. S. Lewis, Ellen Wentworth, Susan Cooper. She’d devoured them as a child. Now, finding herself in one? She’s taking advantage of it as best she can

Didn't realize you were kept in a closet, back there. Very sorry to hear it in fact. How'd you get loose, then? [Jack is assuming some kind of wicked stepmother situation.] Or did you just creep under the door?
I could probably have added Madeleine L'Engle as well [voice]tehoniongirlJanuary 23 2011, 23:29:37 UTC
[That gets an amused sound. She'd escaped a lot of things, but a closet wasn't one of them] I wasn't trapped in a closet. It's just something that I read in a book as a kid. That sometimes you could find a pathway to another world. It seemed worth checking out.
Well, I wouldn't call this a vacation. Not with the Malnosso and their enemies around....so I suppose that could be part of the quest, if you see it that way.
Well, one side wants to eliminate us, so I definitely wouldn't want to help them. On the other hand, I don't really think of the Malnosso as our allies, either.
At least we know it won't be a boring story, I guess.
How have you been? I haven't been able to tell, just by listening, whether the new arrivals have been slowing down or not. Hopefully you've had a chance to rest, somewhere in there.
[Whenever Jilly heads to the forest, she might catch a glimpse of something glowing and airborne. Terra's out there, gliding around just because she can.]
[she'd already settled into her spot, sketchbook in hand, when the glow catches her attention. At first it's just the light glinting off the snow, but when Jilly manages to catch a real glimpse it's enough to take her breath away.
She doesn't speak up. It doesn't even occur to her to break the silence. Instead, she just watches, soaking in the detail with wide, wondering eyes.]
[Terra soars up and lands lightly on a tree branch, content with her view from that spot. Then...there's that feeling of being watched. She glances around warily.]
[It's only when she sees the glowing figure turn to survey the forest that she remembers herself, clearing her throat softly and raising a hand in greeting]
[It takes her a moment to notice this, with her attention on her drawings. When she does, she sticks to speaking. It's easier. Her tone stays good natured, but the light, joking edge fades to something more serious]
I know it's really happening, but I wouldn't say it's all that different from the stories. If you really look at what the characters face in those worlds... they don't exactly have it easy, either.
[to come back either mad or a poet. Magic always had a price]
Oh! I have heard of those. Unfortunately, there must not have been many fairies in the ones near where I grew up... and there aren't a whole lot of mushrooms in the city.

Though I guess it wouldn't be much of a quest if it was that easy to figure out.

[Wry chuckle.]
I suppose you're right. It can't be too easy.

[Or, y'know, curse you for all time. The stories go both ways.]
