2nd Fairy Tale § Voice/Action

[Jilly always loved stories of magic. C. S. Lewis, Ellen Wentworth, Susan Cooper. She’d devoured them as a child. Now, finding herself in one? She’s taking advantage of it as best she can.

Bundled up against the cold, with a small sketchbook tucked in her pocket, Jilly’s spent the morning exploring. At first she stuck to the village where warmth was just a threshold away, but as the day creeps through the afternoon and towards early evening, she’s made her way to the edges of the forest. With winter’s touch stealing the leaves, the amazing variety of the plant life isn’t as easy to see, but there’s still something beautiful about the clinging snow and ice. And, like the unfamiliar night sky, the feel of the forest has a definite sense of otherness that lingers, just under the surface, that she recognizes even after years of city living.

Finding a particularly beautiful spot, with the setting sun glinting off of icicles, she ignores the cold and settles herself against a tree trunk to try and capture it on paper.]

[dictated absently into the journal while she works] You know, all my life I wanted to be the kid to cross over into some magical place. I peeked down rabbit holes and checked the backs of closets.

Maybe the reason it took so long was because I was doing it wrong. Maybe the only way to get there is to stumble across it by accident.

Though usually, when you manage it, the stories always seem to have a quest to complete or a villain to take down. It’s never just a vacation. So would that be the Malnosso, here? Or is that part of the story still unknown?
