Whether you love or hate RENT...

Knowing "Seasons of Love" makes converting years into minutes a hell of a lot easier.

(It's 525, 600 minutes in a year, in case you are unfamiliar with what I'm talking about.)

math!, real life, chemistry class

I'll admit it, I LOL'd.

Oh, musicals. The things you teach us. Assassins is an awesome musical for learning a little American history.

If I seem forward, it's because going backwards makes you look funny. ^_^ teh_amazing_one June 15 2009, 01:01:02 UTC
OMG!!!

I think you are the first person outside my family to actually know Assassins!!!!

You just got cool points.

As you can tell, I am also a fan of it.

I thought about asking my history teacher if I could sing a song from it to get extra credit, but I would be far too embarrassed and never did. The only one I could really sing would be "Unworthy of Your Love," which would be an odd song if you're not in the proper mood for it. All the other songs are for guys, which would be weird for me to sing at best; badly sung at worst.

<-- Former theatre major. Yeah, I know a bit of Sondheim XD

You could always have transposed it to another key, or had someone who knows how to do it. My high school did a production of Once on this Island wherein the part of Agwe (which is written for a bass) was done by a soprano. Our musical director was a fantastically talented woman--had perfect pitch--and sight-transposed it on the spot. It takes other people more time then that, but anyone with some musical know-how would probably be able to do that.

Isn't theatre awesome sace?

I suppose I could, because my dad, who was my link to theatre, would have thought it awesome, I just felt all self conscious about it. I did ok without doing it.

I'd be a bad theatre person because I cannot read music at all. My knowledge extends as far as the notes at the top of the bar are high, the notes at the bottom are low. And that } means to repeat the verse, and the sideways ~ is a stop thingy. I think.

I need to hear a song to hear it's beat if I'm going to be any good at it. It's how I learn songs. Which makes revivals really hard for me. It took me FOREVER to stop hating the Assassins revival. It wasn't that it was bad, it just kept jarring what I was used to.

Sondheim is part of the reason why I hate having poetry assignments. I kind of think a bit in that sort of way with beats, but much, much worse. And I just don't like poetry much.

I have a distinct lack of theatre icons, and it's upsetting.

Isn't DA fun? ♥

I'm almost ashamed that I like RENT but completely forgot about that EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. we had to convert things like that. Half-life, though a rather simple concept to begin with, would have been much simpler.

In another fandom-helping-with-science thread, when I was a little kid and when Pluto was still a planet, Sailor Moon helped me remember the planets of the solar system as well as their order - which, at my age then, was quite the accomplishment if I say so myself. 8D

You weren't humming the song?

Maybe you should send it to Mrs. Vaughn (sp?) as a hint for future classes.

I used to love Sailor Moon, I remember renting a video for it, and playing it out at school, but I do not remember actually watching the show, where it was, or the plot. I really only remember glimpses of a cat with a crescent moon on her head. I think she was called Luna.

Incorporated fandom into real life win!

Sailor Moon was my favourite thing in the world as a little girl, until Mom would openly make fun of it while I watched it, and question my intelligence for liking a show "where all they do is scream AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Her words, not mine. And now she thinks ALL anime is like that. Now that I'm older and don't give a flying fuck what she thinks, I'd like to see the series again (maybe a subbed rather than dubbed version) ♥

My sister and I played out Sailor Moon all the time as kids XD

Fandom is much more helpful in school than some give it credit for! I would have fucking NAILED World History sophomore year if I'd seen Hetalia! :D

I haven't seen the full movie yet. Something always stopped me every time I actually sat down to watch the damn thing :[

Weird as it sounds, Naruto saved my ass junior year, when I had Analysis of Functions as well as Anatomy and Physiology. When I was in math class, I put on my iPod and copied down notes from the book, turning word problems in Naruto-related ones, such as "If Naruto had to eat x bowls of ramen at 2342423424324 mph, how long would it take him to eat y bowls?" (Yeah, I made that one up on the fly.) For Anatomy, it was actually kind of a scary coincidence because I would be watching the anime and it mentioned the unit we were on! For Kabuto and the whole thing where he was mentioning cardiac arrhythmia, we were on the cardiovascular system. When Kimimaro was shown--the bone guy--we were on the skeletal system. It was fucking weird how the units synchronized with an anime, but it was a huge help ( ... )
