What the?

So...

I get this message from someone on the pit:

Subject: Hello :)

Hi! I'm just someone who has read a few of your fanfictions, and I read one
that I kind of want to copy. Sometimes I read something and think "This is how
I would write it." I read Forget Something? and I was wondering if it would be
okay if I rewrote it, gave you credit, and posted it on this site. Keep in
mind it's okay to decline. ^w^ I won't take it personally.

I don't even know what to think about this.

Should I feel flattered that they liked my story so much? Insulted that they want to make their 'own' version of it? Or what?

At least this person asked, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell if someone was plagiarizing me on ffn since I rarely think the fic there is worth checking out (though one time I did notice someone's fic summary was remarkably similar to an event in 'Say Cheese.' The fic however was radically different so I shrugged it off as a coincidence) but I'm not sure what to say. I do know that I am not comfortable at with having my name on something I did not write, so I do not want credit at all for anything someone else pens.

I will admit though that I am slightly curious as to what they would do with it. And possibly worried that someone could run with one of my ideas and produce something better than I could, and maybe just a little bit hopeful that it wouldn't turn out as well as my story.

Honestly, I think I'm on questionable moral ground no matter how I respond. Let's face it, fanfic is already a 'stolen' media. Who am I to give or not give permission to take something that doesn't belong to me to begin with?

On an unrelated note--

Is anyone else not getting email notifications from livejournal? A few comments that have been made on this journal and my fanfic one never made it to my inbox and I was wondering if it was a problem exclusive to me.

writing, the pit, fanfiction, wtf?
