Fan Fiction Recommendations

**UPDATED: Nov 10/10**

It's occurred to me that I've been reading and writing fan fiction for over ten years, so I like to think I've got decent taste. Add to this that I've had computer problems the last while and I'm concerned that I'm going to lose my bookmarks. Therefore I've decided to put together this fan fiction recommendation ( Read more... )

I am pleasantly surprised to realise that I've read most of these and enjoyed them all, which means I shall be promptly checking out the few I haven't. Thanks! (Also, thank you for including Fifth Act in such fine company, it's quite an honour.)

...Was just thinking about 'In Blood Only' the other day, and now that you've linked it, it must be sign it is time for a re-read! It's amazing how very many fics of this type there are, yet so very few handle the character reactions at all realistically.

...Wow, ten years. Feeling old?

Excellent, I shall have to check back periodically then!

You've hit the nail on the head on why people so often give in to the temptation to have characters act the way they wish as opposed to the way they should. Difficult to find a silver bullet for the problem though. Even if you're conscious of characterisation it's an easy trap to fall into thanks to rose-coloured glasses and the pursuit of plot.

Heh, that's very cool. Fanfiction is insidious like that. Probably more people have indulged in it than they realise, they simply didn't know a term for it existed!

Yeah you're right about there not being a silver bullet. Reading good fanfic that goesn't do that helps and I've found a few tricks I've observed and applied occasionally ( ... )

I am more familiar with DS9 fic than TNG, but I'll give it a go Alara Rogers writes some pretty good Q-oriented fic, there is the TV Tropes's Fanfic Recs and while it's not my favourite I am fond of the Battlestar Galactica crossover Going Native. Hope you like them.

Out of curiousity, which of those fics is yours?

Oh man, you're a Tyramir fan?! ME TOO. He is totally awesome. He is like the best writer EVARZ. I even hear he wrote a sequel to Life in the Day of Reno! Howabout that!?

No, seriously, look.
