[fic] Sixty Guilders of Beads against the Stars (Dani/Nate) & [fic rec] Firebirds
Let's start with the fic rec, shall we? If you're a fan of the Marvel universe but you hated Avengers versus X-men, or even if you didn't hate it, but you'd have liked to have seen a different take on it, do I have a story for you.

Why You Should Read It: Because it's fantastic and I read/rec fic about once in a blue-fucking-moon, so you know I'm not lying? No, really, it's amazing.
The story takes on the entire Avengers versus X-Men premise, turns it inside out, and tells it the way it should have been from the beginning, without character assassinations, with character deaths, with consequences for the people who should see consequences, and with the right people playing the right roles at the right times. For once, someone didn't forget that being a Summers has real consequences and has made a deliberate choice to feature the familial relationships that make being a Phoenix host a real...well, tragedy.
It's worth reading before it's finished and even if you're not an X-men fan, because it's just that good. If you're a writer and you want to see an epic plot come together, here's your chance. I'm honestly in awe of the kind of plotting skill this takes. I don't have it, and watching it happen is kind of amazing.
And then, the fic. Okay, yes, there's a relationship between them. See, aliciam did an amazing thing. She put my girl Dani in a pivotal place in the story. If that hadn't been exciting enough, she did me the favor of talking it through with me. Then something pretty cool happened (for me, anyway) and she asked me to tell her what happened with Dani next for her birthday. This is that story.
