First thought time

When you hear the word "feminism," what is the first thing you think of?

No PC-ness in my journal, s'il vous plait. Just honesty.

The absolute first thought was the memory of going to the ERA march in Tallahassee when I was a kid complete with a T-shirt that read "The ERA is for my future".

Funny thing about it though: I remember being as pissed as a small child can get over the fact that the E in ERA was backwards on the pre-printed ones. Even that young, despite the fact that it made me mad that it implied that I was stupid because I was a little kid, I was even more concerned that it would send out the message that I couldn't write correctly because I was a girl. I ended up using mom's Artex paints and made another one before the march.

If this were a free-association session, my answer would be: equality.

If I were being academic, it would be bell hook's definition of feminism, from an excellent primer on the subject, Feminism is for Everybody.

What I will do: Go to bed. It's late.

LOL.

I'm sorry.

That was my honest answer.

Hey, did you get my email about the fashion show? Let me know...I'm ready and willing, but I'll need to know soon!

Whew. If anyone's reading these responses further, here's the story in a nutshell:

First, I appreciate the communication and help that everyone has done for me. A tremendous relief.

Second, the models have reconciled and I feel that I can depend on all of them. This time.

Third, was working diligently on clothes nearly all day and couldn't get a chance to email.

So, pixiecup, may I get in touch with you sometime in the future? (And would you be interested in coming to the show? I could provide a couple of comps for you and your husband.)
