And yes, there was sad, but it was made up for by Kaylee's plotting to get Mal to clean up! 'Cause you know she was totally sitting there thinking, "I feel bad about Zoe ... also, I really don't want to clean any of this up. Hmm, maybe Simon or Mal will come by and I can get them to do it! ... Nah, Simon probably wouldn't help. He'd just stand around and ask things like, 'How'd you get protein into the lights?' Now, to use my special Little Girl Lost Angsty-Type Skills to summon Mal!"
Also, Mal is, as always, adorable. And he's so going to tell Inara anyway, just 'cause Inara will propose a Dinner Party in a week and a half and make it all seem like her idea. So there'll be real food and not a destroyed kitchen and everything!
~hugs and love~ Yaaaaaaaaaay!

Heh! It's so true! Yeah, she was upset, but she started crying extra hard when she heard Mal coming. *G*

He so is. But only because she used wiles on him.

Mal swallowed hard. He couldn’t believe it. All that time, worrying on Zoe, on River-not once giving thought to Kaylee. Thinking she was fine, just because she and the doc finally managed to make it work.
I never once thought of the hard time Kaylee would have of it after Miranda, I mean, she'd had to KILL, she'd seen her friends hurt and dying. She lost a good friend and she covers all her emotions with a cheerful exterior. I'm glad you wrote this, it makes me feel less guilt for ignoring her. I wish there were more Kaylee fics like this.

It really did occur to me suddenly that Kaylee would probably have a lot of grief following Miranda, and that it's usually ignored in favour of her living happily ever after with Simon. I'm so glad it worked for you!

I also really like how you had Mal realize that he'd been so busy taking care of the people who he thought really needed that he missed Kaylee because she always seems happy.
I couldn't help think that Kaylee's shiny new relationship with Simon could be a little deceptive. She's the most intuitively emotional person on that crew, and I suddenly felt an urge to explore her grief a little.

“Hey, no-been meaning to redecorate,” Mal said. “Far too… cheerful in here. With the… paint.” I just heard him say that, wonderful!
Well, of course she’d say that now, once he was already roped into cleaning up the galley. *gigglesnort*
